I don't know how the rest of you manage to get through these torturous summers, but I've taken to watching old videos of Paige's HS games. It's usually difficult to find complete game videos of HS games, but Hopkins HS happens to have a significant video archive available on Youtube under their partnership with CCXMedia. Here's one from 7 years ago (I think), the section final against their great rival Wayzata HS. Lots of great players on each team. And there's lots more games like this one. You can also find complete game videos of Ashlynn when she starred for Noblesville HS in Indiana, including at least one game against Ayanna Patterson.

On Wayzata, Kalie Theisen (who we just saw playing for South Dakota St in the tournament this year), Jenna Johnson (who went on to star at Utah), Annika Stewart (plays for Minnesota) and Mara Braun (who plays for Minnesota).

On Hopkins, besides sophomore Paige there's Maya Nnaji (formerly at Arizona), Amaya Battle and Taylor Woodson (who play at Minnesota with Mara Braun), Nunu Agara (who plays for Stanford) and one of my favorites, DLayla Chakolis (who played for Hampton U).

This game is a sort of early premonition of UConn's win over UCLA, since Wayzata was a much larger team but Hopkins beat them with a small lineup often featuring Chakolis at 5'7" defending Stewart at 6'4" and doing a great job at it.
Enjoy!

This thread dealing with emotions surrounding the end of a season and the void created brought to mind the linked article written by Bart Giamatti.

His article is about baseball, and the double whammy of a Red Sox loss and a summer coming to an end. But it does contain a more universal message.

And I will miss Paige and this UConn version terribly. But the exhilaration of finally winning number 12, of Paige going out a winner, and the decisiveness of the victories, will stand me in good stead for quite a while. And the games on DVD will be rewatched many more times.

And Spring is starting to arrive in Connecticut.

I am always thankful that Masters weekend comes immediately after the WCBB season ends.

And I have tickets to the Wings versus Sun on May 27!

Consider: FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup.
This will be held in Czechia from July12 to July 20th.
The USA TEAM has not been determined but I
think that Sarah Strong should be considered a
repeat roster member. The USA is in Group A
with Israel, Hungry, and Korea. The USA will
play Korea on Saturday July 12 at "14:15" (I'm not
sure if that is EST or Local time in Czechia).
Other strong teams are: Group B: Canada
Group C: Australia and France and Group D:
Spain and Japan. I anticipate that some BONEYARDER
or UCONN will announce if Sarah is selected.
Don't be fooled by the age requirements. They are
not determined by the individual players birthday but
by Being U19 prior to a certain date. Last year's Gold
Medal Team's Roster for the U18 tournament was:
Sarah Strong, Jasmine Davidson, Saniyah Hall, and
Arianna Robertson (sp). By age.... They Could all
be on a repeat team = but this rarely happens.

I watched the Championship game 3 times....I'm enjoying the spring/summer and since our team is the reigning national champs, I'm in no hurry for next season.
One thing I really noticed, was late in the 3rd quarter or early 4th, while Dawn was using the "F" word, Geno was suppressing a smile because at that point the game was over.

As long as James Patterson and coauthors keep pumping out books once every few weeks and authors like Baldacci, Sandra Brown, and others I’ll be entertained. Throw in Celtics playoff run and WNBA games we’re good until June. By then there’s some FIBA games and right around the corner is preseason football. While it seems excruciating long before UConn is back on the floor, for us old bucks it really goes by fast.

Today I watched this gem of a video. I'm recalling fondly how the forum was breaking down every clip with basketball..

This is one of the not only best, but most telling of why a young lady would choose Uconn. The camaraderie is just so up front along with the close-knit atmosphere. I'm sure there are other programs who are similar to ours but like they say, the original is still the greatest.

I was on the Wings site and they were selling tickets for the game at Mohegan Sun and I think the tickets in the upper deck in the corner was over 200 bucks. Courtside, about 2000.

WNBA preseason starts next week, regular season in a couple of weeks, thru Sept. I really look forward to watching the very best women players. Each season the players get better and better. Plenty of UConn alumnae to watch. I will watch any game I can watch; not so for the college games.

However, Dallas Wings open the WNBA season on 5/16/25 vs. Pheesa and the Minnesota Lynx, so UConn alums are playing in the not so distant future...

I'm with you. Just turn my attention to the WNBA. More and more games are being broadcast, the All-Access Pass isn't too expensive and there's an active group of followers/contributors over on The General Board who -- not surprisingly ;) -- will report and then opine on what they see.

Very familiar with most of the established players (there's not a lot of turnover in the overall league from year to year) and the newcomers are also well-known, due to their play in the collegiate ranks. While I do keep track of former "Domers" (term for Notre Dame grads), I like to see how most of the "newbies" are doing. They've all got game, so let's see how they do.

By the time it wraps up, we're into fall practice for college.

(p.s. For now, I'm gearing up for another favorite sport: the Men's Lacrosse playoffs.)

Outside of watching sports, time for walks with my teacher wife (out of the classroom as of June 30) and a longer-than-usual (three week) stint on the beach with my wife and grown children. Biggest concern? What fish to grill and/or prepare every day. ;)

I normally associate ND with the famous Χριστὸς Παντοκράτωρ, not the dome. We also had a Χριστὸς Παντοκράτωρ at my alma mater, CUA, so that image has a warm spot in my memory. Ours was on the inside of our cathedral dome.

I got summer workouts and AAU ball. A lot of the up-and-coming talent, I will see over the summer. I got a few weeks off before basketball gets back in full swing.

That is a phenomenal article. His untimely death was a great loss to baseball and America.

I've had a much more difficult time letting go of this past season then any before it, even more so than the two DT led teams in 2003 and 2004. Perhaps it was because of everything this team went through, perhaps it was because we got to know them all so well and appreciated how they struggled, perhaps it was because of the close calls and near misses in the Paige years before. Perhaps it was because they became our daughters and granddaughters out there as we went through the journey with them.

Or perhaps the real answer is that I just really loved this team. I loved the way they became everything they were capable of becoming after the Tennessee game. I love the way they played, so reminiscent of the Knicks team from the late 60s and early 70s. I loved how Paige asserted herself fully and finally in the post season so that everyone could see what we here always knew, that she was one of the greatest women's college players of all time and so unique in her precision and unselfishness.

And once again it was Geno, recreating his team in February to get to the Promised Land which eluded him for what seemed like an eternity in between titles. The Old Maestro still had plenty left in the tank and the run through the Regionals and Final Four was pure exhilaration with two signature dominating wins against UCLA and South Carolina that left no doubt at all about their greatness.

I really wanted to see them play more is it. I didn't want it to end. They were so good, so simpatico, so joyous and played at a pace and level I will never forget. So it's golf, the Jersey Shore, perhaps a European adventure, time with the actual grandkids and all of those are true blessings in life. But so was going through this season with our team. In retrospect that's what it really was, and why it is so hard to let go. A blessing, pure and simple to be a devoted fan of this team.

It is posts like this that make the Boneyard the treasure that it is.

Fully and finally, yep, that's what she did. The chips were down and she delivered, with some help from her friends. It was beautiful to see and we will always remember it with great fondness, joy, and respect.

1. Job
2. Bike rides
3. Hangin' with dawg
4. Swimming in pool (preferably sans trunks)
5. Going to music festivals
6. Going to music shows at small venues
7. Birding
8. Hitting breweries
9. Driving really fast down country roads
10. Eating out
11. Vacations!!!

Then, its hoops season...

Between, the "downers", my heart and my arthritis, the things that keep me alive are my friends, the NY Yankees keep me going from April to October and UConn WBB and WBB as a whole keep me going from October to April!
And when those 2 overlap it seems like something great is happening every day!

During college basketball season I usually put aside most everything else to watch or play (video games) so the off season is my chance to catch up on the backlog. :)

There’s also work, the Yankees, hiking, breweries, etc etc. The CNY area is always bustling in the summer and fall with events. Time moves fast.

In the words of Jed Clampet, "what the dickens you say?" You realize that approx. 99.9% of the people on the BY have no clue what you are talking (actually typing) about. Or was that the point of your post?

Sorry about that. I was trying not to be disrespectful. If you recall the famous image of a religious figure with his arms up appearing to signal a touchdown at ND, that’s actually an icon of the all-powerful One (Παντοκράτωρ), and it only happens to be visible from the football stadium by chance. There’s a similar one at my Alma mater, the Catholic University of America. In my childhood, this icon, and the way sportscasters talked about it was almost a byword for ND athletics. It was one reason I was a Fighting Irish fan. I am also Irish on my mother’s side. I’m still a fan, except when it comes to WCBB, and still have several friends on the faculty there.
