Word on the Summitt is that a Boneyard member has passed away. Known by Ruffian on this board ctwhitey was a man of many screen names and a long time fan of UConn Huskies.
I hope he is at peace.

He also posted under the name of Slewbopper... I spent many nights sitting in the stands watching UConn games with Slew... And, it was always over to either Coaches or the Black Bear to hoist a few before the game. He was a brutally honest, tell it like it was, hard working blue collar guy. Despite his constant complaining about particular players and the way that they played and his pet names for a few of the players he loved, loved his Huskies. He and I drove some long distances to see them play...he was always excited about them in the post season. He will be missed as he was an honest, humor filled voice in this world. RIP Slew. For those who are interested Slewbopper's real name was David Fletcher.

I'm truly sorry to hear about David's passing. We'd had our issues in the past but I'm glad to say that we'd patched things up recently. I wish him RIP and condolences to his friends and family.

Unfortunately for me I never met him. RIP David.

Blessings to him and his family and friends.

I knew he was severely ill but always thought he had a fighting chance and was gonna take it. So I'm a little shocked as well as dismayed at this news.

Didn't know him well personally, though we'd met and exchanged some off-board conversation not long ago, and as Nan says things were copacetic. We mods sent him a card, and I wish the sentiments on it had come true.

I think CFerr, a good friend, has summarized his persona very well. A unique, honest and good-humored voice is lost.

He loved the horses, and his several handles said so. As for his occasional anger eruptions, hey, every thoroughbred can come down with equine distemper.

RIP CTWhitey, BoldBidder, Dr. Fager, Slewbopper, Ruffian et al. There's no replacing you.

God Bless you Slew. I remember a couple of nights at Coachs.

We mods sent him a card, and I wish the sentiments on it had come true.
The card was from the mods AND all his fellow UConn fans on the Boneyard. It was sent soon after he went into the hospital; I sincerely hope it brought him a smile.

R.I.P. from this Boneyard visitor, too. Thank you to mods for the card.

What a great handle - Ruffian.

It's funny the things that come to mind when one hears news like this... although Slew & I had known each other for a very long time, I never told him that my Tuna boat is named "Ruffian." I had thought to tell him about the boats name hundreds of times and never got around to it...

Hey Slew ol' friend, I've got a boat named "Ruffian." I'll name my next dingy, "Hussie."

Now that you're on the inside of the real power players club... pull some strings and help get us another NC!

Your Ol' Pal Boo

I never met David and we did have our disagreements, but he was a great UCONN Fan and will be missed. Rest in peace Slew.

I am very sorry to hear this news. I liked him because of his great choice of naming himself after a wonderful (and for this board appropriately female) racehorse.

In his honor (I hope he would have liked this):

God Bless David !! We know you'll be up there watching the games and rooting for UCONN. Rest In Peace

Thoughts and condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.

I've never posted before but I've been reading the Boneyard for a long time. First and foremost I always looked for postings from Slew. More than anything, Slew made me laugh!

I'm really sorry to hear about Dave's passing. I never met him, but I enjoyed conversing with him over many years on the ESPN board about everything from bball, horses, women, politics, etc. He was truly passionate about his "Hussies". It was also evident he was a hard worker, and very loyal friend to people he respected and liked. I will miss ya Slew. RIP.

Don't think I ever met him. But I do remember the handle Slewbopper on here. RIP.

For those who may not read the ESPN board, Slew was almost an iconic figure there. His ongoing battle of wits with the mods there provided lively daily drama, as did his ability to converse knowledgeably on a whole wide range of topics. I will miss him. RIP, Slew.

Never met David, unfortunately. Condolences to his family, and RIP fellow Boneyarder...

I spent the morning participating in a fundraiser for the benefit of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The relatively small event raised over $5k for the cause. Ironically, the first thread I read when I got home was this one announcing that Ruffian/Slewbopper/CT Whitey had succumbed.

The big C is relentless but I think it's beatable in our time. People are being cured and people are living years and years longer due to the great work the researchers and doctors have done over the last 30-40 years.

We have to be more relentless than Cancer. I don't know a single person that has not had someone they know be affected by it.

I hope you have found peace Dave.

I never knew Slew personally but his were the posts I read first on the ESPN board because I appreciated the spirit and humor and knowledge behind them. He made me laugh so many times. He was also Boldbidder on the scout boards as well, his style was easy to spot. I am so sorry for his passing, and I wish his spirit and his family and friends, peace.
