#6 Mississippi St @ South Florida - 12/05/20

What. A. Game.

To be frank, it's poetic justice after some people heaped dismissiveness onto South Florida after they gave Baylor more than a good tussle.

Some even said it must've been "a mental thing" with Baylor, since of course there could be no plausible explanation in the physical realm for that game to have been competitive.

I guess that "mental" malaise has also afflicted the fortunes of MSU, karma being what it is. :D :p

This one goes out to all the USF haters, and they know who they are :)

9 turnovers for Jackson. Sheesh.

Mississippi State is deep, talented, and tough, but I’m surprised Cooks hasn’t been more of a factor. Schafer had referred to her as “unguardable” at times in the past. Her development might be important for MSST. If she doesn’t start to produce more, Matharu is more than ready to step in.

Most of those were travels and offensive fouls too

Jackson’s ceiling is just ridiculous if she can sharpen a few pieces of her game. To have that kind of agility and handle at 6’3 — enough said.

Do Angel Reese and Jackson remind you of each other? Their games seem very similar to me.

I'm not a USF hater, but that was me who said that. Laugh away.

Love how USF's point guard protects the ball with her backside. MSU has quick guards but they aren't creating havoc against the opposing team's point guard like they usually can. USF's point guard is excellent at starting the USF offense. One of the best point guards I've seen this season.
I think that is a weakness in her game, dribbling with her back to the basket. How can she see the whole court? She is effective but I think her handle is not very strong if she has to do that. I believe most coaches would prefer their point guard dribble facing the defense, maybe.

I remember Louisville had a point guard who did the same thing a few years back, Lol it always looked funny to me.

Lol. Welp. Karma.

I love Coach McCray, but I was rooting for the upset. Especially after the way a few of the State fans here jumped in on the “I hate SC” train and relished in our loss a few days ago.

Am I salty? LOL, yep.

Just curious here...... who did that? I don't think it was me.

Umm, so 14 points, 11 rebounds and 9 Assists vs. 3 assists for the entire MSU team? Give me that weakness EVERY TIME.
If you noticed, she only did the back to the defender when bringing the ball up the court to protect against the steal, once in the half court set, she did not do that.

Well, while we are piling on, what about the 21 Turnovers? 3 assists to 21 turnovers...YIKES...

For comparison SC vs. NC State had 9 assists to 11 TOs.

Baylor had 20 assists to 16 TOs against USF as a direct correlation.

Eye test and stat test tells me SC is still far ahead of everyone in the SEC. Texas A&M, Kentucky, MSU and Arkansas will battle for the #2 SEC seed...He who turns the ball over the least will be the #2 seed...

What makes me mad is that Smith and Egbo had 8 of the 16 turnovers. Egbo had 2 travels in the last minute and no one was around her. Lol I miss Lauren Cox

South Florida shot 6 out of 30 from 3s. With that many bricked shots and extra possessions for us to seize, we could've easily stolen that game away. Yet we couldn't beat a team that shot 6/30 from 3s.... lol. Imagine how happy Vic would be if Oregon shot like that in that game in Portland.

Here's another crazy statistic:

We got 36 paint points, easily owned South Florida in the paint 36-14.

21 of our points from the line.... that's 57. That means we got only 6 points from the outside. 2 threes (Matharu and Cooks). Crazy.

Is it wishful thinking to think that a statistically horrible game like this won't ever happen again?

I mean... Cooks got 35 minutes and contributed to 3 points and 5 turnovers. Mingo-Young also a no show. Here is where depth is critical. If Wiggins and Godfrey were available earlier, we could've given them a try instead of trying to stubbornly win it on 2 struggling players.

I guess that was Gary Payton's weakness too! Watch footage of the GREAT Gary Payton, and tell me he didn't see the whole court.

First real test, FAILED! I did not see the game but stats looks like we folded under pressure. That is not to say USF is not a really good team but we missed a lot of free throws and in spite of our size we got beat on the boards. Hope the team comes our swinging in futures games and gets PHYSICAL!
