3-way Tie for BE POTY, and no Bouk? | Page 2 | The Boneyard

3-way Tie for BE POTY, and no Bouk?

Bouknight not winning POTY I understand, he didn't play enough games - but I don't get the Coach award... We finished third without bouk for 8 games, Johnnies who I respect greatly had their best player for all but 2 games finished behind us in 4th

I think it's because he didn't use enough timeouts early in games. ;)

I don't think it's a conscious choice to have multiple, it's that coaches voted and it ended tied
I mean what happens in the NBA, NFL, MLB, every other damn sport lol.

there are ways.

For all the people who keep bringing it up, what exactly is the Big East supposed to do? 3 coaches vote for Mamu, 3 for Gillespie, 3 for Robinson-Earl, what's that next step that the Big East is supposed to do?
Send them back for more deliberation, like a hung jury.

I know this is a UConn board, but did you really believe Bouknight is going to be more motivated by not getting POY in a year where he missed half of the conference games?

I'm assuming playing in what will be his only Big East tournament and winning will be enough motivation for a New York kid.

St. John's started the year 71st in KenPom. Ended up 64th. Hurray he won a tiebreaker and finished 2 games better than expected. Really stunning stuff. (9th place 8-11, Johnnies 10-9).
I'm not saying Dan Hurley didn't deserve it...I'm saying Anderson had a legit claim to the award. And I don't think coaches are looking at Kenpom to decide who get COY. Anderson deserves credit...they were Shtshow before he got there.

What happens in those sports is they name a co-MVP. Keith Hernandez and Willie Stargell were co-MVPs in the NL in 1979. It's just incredibly rare because professional sports vote 1st through 10th so ending up with the same number of points is harder than just voting for 1st

Comical. I mean I kno he missed 8 games but he was a major factor in all our wins plus him dropping 40 on Creighton was performance of the year in big East- plus he’s projrvted top 10 pick. Completely outplayed zegarowski in that game. Zegarowski shud not even have made big East second team from what I saw from him this year. Very unimpressive. What a joke. That’s ok. Well take that chip on your shoulder. Colin Gillespie better than Bouk ? Stop. Plus if you’re going to split it three ways for god sake then at least include him

I was going to say, voting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd decreases the chances of a tie

If we're getting into an era of co-POTY, I wouldn't want it.

Let me earn something I don't need to share to please the masses. Ridiculous, doesn't even matter who wins.
What you don't like participation trophies?

Julian Champagnie got robbed. He really should have been the Big East Player of the Year. Mamu is a good pick as well but they have a worse record than the Johnnies and finished below them in final Big East standings. The Hall also finished below pre-season expectations.

Bouk missed too many games or he would have won it unanimously.

Mike Anderson did a lot more with less I think. Low ranked players. UConn was preseason #3 and ended #3. Could make a case for both guys of course but Anderson’s team far exceeded expectations. As far as Bouknight goes, he’s the best player in the league for sure. He played half the games and is an underclassman. Julian Champagnie had better stats overall than any of the one 3 but also suspect underclassmen status hurt him there.

I love when boomers call out the “participation trophy era.” Who was ordering those trophies? I remember when I was nine and my youth soccer teammates and I hit up the trophy store so we would all feel awesome 🙄

Anyway, James is the best player in the conference and he will reinforce that this week.

that's only 9 votes do we know who got the other 2?

A long-standing UConn tradition.

2004: Okafor gets robbed of NPOY because of Jameer Nelson. We win the national championship.
2011: Ben Hansbrough (lol) wins BE POY over Kemba. We win the national championship.
2021: Bouknight loses out on BE POY to three bums. We win the...
