While waiting for today's game to start, I tuned in our stereo to WRIU-FM, the college radio station of the University of Rhode Island to listen to their Sunday Blues music show. Instead, they were broadcasting a URI baseball game. Nice to have them carrying a sports broadcast. Just wish WHUS will get back into broadcasting a wide range UConn events, including baseball. Having the games on MIXLR is good, but having them on the regular radio would be better.

Chris Jones says Jack Sullivan is not available to pitch today, he has been sick (not Covid).

Top 2nd, Stefanoni with a scoreless inning after giving up a leadoff walk. 1-0 UConn.

Would prefer if Jones and this other guy switch roles and allow Jones to do the play by play.

Going to the bottom of the 2nd, 1-0 UConn.

Bottom 2nd, UConn loads the bases with 1 out. Padilla draws a 2 out walk bringing in a run to make it 2-0 Huskies. Stock with a grand slam to make it 6-0.

If Chris Jones were doing the play by play, it may have been a grand salami!

Bottom 3rd, UConn puts 2 runners on base with 1 out. 2 wild pitches bring in a run to make it 7-0 Huskies. Morton with an rbi single makes it 8-0 with 1 out.

Top 5th, Stefanoni with another 1-2-3 inning with the aide of a quality defensive play by Padilla. 8-0 UConn. Stefanoni continues to be efficient in this game, he is at 56 pitches.

Bottom 5th, St. John's pitchers giving up walks and wild pitches again, UConn has runners on the corners with 1 out. Infield hit by Morton brings in a run, 9-0 UConn.

Morton is batting .500 on the year. Gonna be tough to take him out of the lineup.

Morton has taken advantage of the playing time he has gotten due to injuries and such. I was thinking after the lineup came out today that this lineup could pretty much be the standard lineup for the rest of the season, assuming of course the offensive production keeps up.

Funny, at the beginning of the season, while it looked like Morton and Padilla would get some playing time coming off the bench. I doubt any fans figured they would end up being in the everyday starting lineup.

Top 6th, a scoreless inning for Stefanoni.

California JUCO Curren Larson was warming up in the bullpen that inning, Larson has not yet pitched in a game for UConn this season.

First two batters walked to start the bottom of the 6th, but we almost fail to score before a wild pitch brings one in. Doubt that happens in a regional. Something for Penders to harp on I guess.
