Top 6th, Peterson retires the side in order, that's 11 in a row for him. Peterson with 6 strikeouts on the night, he is at 81 pitches.

Bottom 6th, UConn goes down in order.

Top 7th, Hector Alejandro in to pitch for UConn.

Top 8th, a 1 out grand slam for St. John's, 12-6 is the score. Alejandro coming out, Sam Favieri coming in to pitch.

Grand slam makes the score less pretty, but all we need to do here is throw strikes and not make errors and we're fine.

Top 8th, Favieri walks the first batter he faces, next batter singles. Brendan O'Donnell coming in to pitch.

UConn had the big lead, which allowed Alejandro and Favieri to come in. They had a bad time of it, so now we're starting to see someone we are used to seeing out of the pen on a somewhat regular basis. Chris Jones says the next 3 batters up for St. John's are lefty hitters, which is made to order for O'Donnell.

O'Donnell with 2 strikeouts to strand two runners on base. 12-6 UConn.

Top 9th, O'Donnell gets the first out. Brady Afthim coming in to pitch.

When we left the AAC for The Big East I loved the move, but said the one sport whose competition would be downgraded was baseball. Sadly, it's worse than I anticipated. Big East baseball is awful.

I thought soccer would be similar but the BE seems to be holding their own there (and we need to step up).

Coach Penders says Hector Alejandro was really good the first inning he was in, not so good the second. Sam Favieri gave up the leadoff walk, which probably sealed his fate for that game. On the other hand, Brendan O'Donnell did really well in his mound stint.
