Got to go again today. A bunch of scouts behind me. Couple of thoughts:
Peterson was working so fast, he was getting the sign and firing immediately.
T.C. is locked in. Huber had better at bats and Stock is on fire. Padilla had himself a nice game as well.
We have to sweep URI.

Afternoon weather looks a little sketchy. Wonder if they’ll push up the start time

Coach Penders has been using the D.H. spot in the lineup this season as a place to keep regular position players in the lineup when they get a day off from playing the field. Keeping up that pattern, the regular catcher Matt Donlan is the D.H. today for I believe the first time this season.

At the beginning of the season I was not expecting much offensively from Donlan, but while he doesn't hit for a high batting average, he has shown good power and he gets on base (to me, getting on base is the most valuable offensive asset there is in baseball). As such Donlan has been a much better offensive performer than I was expecting, but if you listen to the various interviews with the coaching staff, it would seem that they had the proper offensive expectations for him.

Today is one of those days where my attention is going to be split this afternoon. I will most certainly be listening to Chris Jones and his play by play of today's game, but I expect to also end up watching the UConn women's basketball game when that game starts up around 2pm. As such I probably won't be posting as regularly as I usually do during the baseball game today.

.-.
Very poor start for the offense, going 1-2-3 against a struggling URI starter.

Bottom 1st, Gallagher with a 1-2-3 inning with 2 strikeouts. No score.

Top 2nd, Simmons gets hit by a pitch, but that is it for the UConn offense as 3 Huskies strikeout. No score.

.-.
This pitcher came into the game with a 9.17 ERA and control issues. Credit to him for throwing mostly strikes but we're not off and running at all today. Need Pat to come up big again.

Bottom 2nd, Gallagher with a scoreless inning, picks up 3 more strikeouts for a total of 5 on the game. 25 pitches for Gallagher so far.

Top 3rd, UConn goes down quickly in order. UConn hitters with 6 strikeouts so far. No score.

Bottom 3rd, Gallagher strands 2 runners on base (a walk and a Padilla error). No score.

Padilla's glove has not been great in the actual games; could open up more time for Brown if Padilla stops hitting.

That Padilla / Brown slot could be the X factor for this year's team. We could really use one of them being an above average starter if we have dreams of Omaha.

Pat gets around the danger anyway. 0-0 still, hit the ball.

Another thing to factor into the Padilla/Brown question of playing time is Zach Bushling, who I believe is better off defensively in the infield if he is not at shortstop.

Getting no hit through 4. Not much to say. We won't be ranked next week if we drop this one, even if we beat them by 20 again tomorrow.

Bottom 4th, URI loads the bases with no outs on 3 singles. Gallagher gets out of it with 2 strikeouts and a fly out. No score. Gallagher at 61 pitches, and has 8 strikeouts on the game.

We escape a bases loaded, no outs jam! This can easily be a momentum boost for our offense if we have quality at bats.

.-.
Bottom 5th, URI with 4 runs so far, including a home run. 4-1 URI.

Erik Stock solo shot to right field w/ 1 out in the T6. 4-2 Rams

Bottom 6th, Gallagher on the mound to start the inning, figure it will be his last inning, he starts at 82 pitches.

Gallagher with a quick 1-2-3 inning.
