Depends on the softball program. Those at the top are the ones who are now funding the maximum allowable 25 full scholarships. I'm sure they could find room to use one of those 'ships on an elite prospect who at a minimum could be the designated hitter as they transition their way from hoops to softball for the season at hand. This is the first academic year for the 25 scholarship/roster maximum. Texas only has 23 players on its 2025-26 roster; so that tells me there would be room at programs who manger their rosters similarly.
A player who chooses to play two sports in college will count one scholarship against each sports program. But, if you think about it, only one sport has to actually pay the tuition, housing, etc. So, although it's double-counting, it's not double expensing.
