2026 Transfer portal

.-.
Jeez. We were all talking about Tennessee and maybe we should have been focusing on Iowa State and Arizona. Wfith both programs having 5, if not more, players transferring. Yikes. What is going on at Iowa State and Arizona?
Hey we were assured by a certain unbiased poster...wait, that's not really true, well anyway things allegedly were so much better in Tucson this year with a new coach.

Just to clarify about bias or not, this would be the poster who fervently hates all things U of A, not the poster who supports the program.

3rd time is a charm? Or "it's not you, it's me."?
I think we are just going to have to get used to this.

It's not "you or me", it's just three opportunities to get a pay raise.

I'm actually an old school purist, excited about 4th and 5th yr seniors, mascots and fan bases. This year, however, I'm even noting that many portal announcements are now being made by the "student/athlete's" agents. 🤓

Turn out the lights in Ames. Feels like Oregon State of a few years ago

The portal has spoken.

This isn't like Oregon State where they made it to the Elite 8 and everyone bounced. Not a fair comparison in my opinion.

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of a Land Grant losing most of its squad while the Flagship continues to flourish.

For the record, Crooks turns 22 in December, which makes her eligible for this year’s WNBA draft. But it’s hardly a slam dunk that she could thrive, or even survive in the W.

As I pointed out in another post, Iowa St has built their offense around getting Crooks 20-30 touches in the low post every game. There is no guarantee that another school would accommodate a similar offense, particularly for a one year rental.

Finally, if Crooks decides to stay at Iowa St for one more year, it seems that she would do so with many/all of her teammates heading for the exits. So her decision is a very difficult one, with no guarantee of success.

There would be a real challenge for any school that might bring in Crooks as a transfer. Crooks is effective at Iowa St because the Cyclones have essentially built their offense around her. Crooks gets 20-30 touches every game. So for example, ND, who currently runs their offense through HH, would need to shift much of their offense to Crooks in the low post.

I can’t imagine Crooks going somewhere that she would merely become a role player who scores in the teens. Beyond that, Crooks is a one year rental with limited defensive ability and stamina for any team that pushes the pace.

If Crooks chooses to remain in college, her best option is to stay at Iowa State.
The blue is another reason why Crooks wouldn't come to ND. Not only is HH the focal point of the offense for ND, Coach Ivey's main focus is to push pace at all times. I simply can't see any mutual benefits to Crooks and the ND system....at least as long as Hanna H. has the controls.

Agree that she and Fennelly are probably the best options for each other, which could be why Brown and Williams are headed out the door.

Oklahoma will need a Center with Beers departing. Perhaps Crooks would be a good fit there if she decides to enter the transfer portal.

Oklahoma does like to push pace. Beers is no speed-demon by any means, but she can move faster than Crooks.
Yes, there's always a chronic shortage of centers (save for S. Carolina!), but Addy Brown would strike me as a soon-to-be-former ISU player more suited for Norman.

Yeah, if you need a Center, the pickings are always slim. It's not like OU plays defense much. And, with the amount of time Beers spent on the bench in foul trouble, that would be the minutes when Crooks could get some breathers.

Like Texas, don't they need a PG for next season?... Those Monday Founders

Texas does lose Rori Harmon. Rising junior Bryanna Preston seems to be line to be the starting PG next season with incoming freshman Aaliah Spaight competing for the spot, as well.

Jada Williams will be a senior next season and she did play two seasons at Arizona with Texas's Center, Breya Cunningham before they both transferred out last offseason; so, there's a connection. They also were high school teammates for two years in San Diego.

The team that picks this player will improve!! She is smart and hustles all of the time. She is 5'9" and had 330+ rebounds this season.
