2026 Transfer portal

We're about at the point where these players weren't even born yet the last time Tennessee went to the Final 4/won a Championship. How can that still hold some cache for up and coming high school players?
You'd have to ask them, but their storied history is undisputed. How do you explain top recruits still going there in spite of the train wreck, and recently, a brand new coach with zero elite WCBB experience?

I mean, it's a school with a great athletics culture, in a really fun and cute town, with great facilities, great AD support, and a fan base that turns out year after year after year. And Kim cuts a young, energetic, charismatic cloth, especially out of the gate. It's not hard to see why top recruits would be attracted even if they think of Candice Parker as a graying, aged mother figure, lol.

Fair points. I guess UCLA men's hoops is still kind of like that. But at some point, everybody has to admit the program ain't what it used to be and never will be again.

Nah, she's the auntie who will dote on you when you deserve it and give you what for when you step out of line. 😉

Not really notable, since Arizona was awful this year, but quite a bit of the team has declared for the portal. Remaining include Sugapong, Ladwig and Jurado (both were freshmen), plus Dew who didn't play and was the lone holdover (injury). There was also an early entry that was on the bench (inactive) the second half of the season. 3 graduates and 5 in the portal.

Plus you can leave campus, go mountain climbing, Hunt and fish, find some moonshine, and go listen to some bluegrass at a local club.. and still be home in time for dinner.

Learn somethin’ new every day. I had no idea Knoxville was an hour from Great Smokies National Park. I’ll be spending a week down in Gatlinburg and the park next month, my first time there. No shine, but I do plan on partaking of local microbrews.

I didn't follow Iowa State too much this season. Not sure if this is a big deal or a simple matter of playing time.

This the third potential transfer. Not sure why it didn't work in the previous post.

On top of all that, there's probably a pretty good amount of NIL money being offered, based on everything I've read and heard via the grapevine.

I see Prawl is rumored to be thinking of entering the portal and that Alyssa Latham is also thinking of doing so. (I'm still at a loss why she left Syracuse, but that's another story). Pissot went to Knoxville due to legacy (her dad, I believe), so she later took "legacy" to mean all of the state and went to Vandy. Smart move...found a coach who knew how to use her game.

Posted this somewhere but at some point folks need to realize that all good things -- let alone, great -- come to an end, for a variety of reasons. Tennessee is simply not going to replicate the time, person, players, playing style and external factors that made the Volunteer program a force for so long. Until it wasn't. Too many new factors: better and more players coming from the world over, women's basketball getting hotter bringing in more money to more programs. Agents. Self-marketing. Sure, Knoxville (or fill in the blank) is nice but what's it going to get me at the end of the day?

It takes a great, culture-setting coach to transcend all of that and make a successful hoops team that then becomes a program you want to be a part of.

(Sorry for rambling, but I needed the build to get to where I wanted.... 😉 )

I think this could be a good addition for Kim Caldwell at UT. Beaty played high school ball in a small town about an hour from Knoxville. She’s a good, tough little player. Won a state championship in the shot put in high school. Admittedly it wasn’t against elite competition, but, still, she’s no shrinking violet. Good passer and shooter who might like to get back closer to home. The problem is, I’ve always liked her, and I don’t want to be liking a Lady Vol. Could create a quandary for me.

Was she a point and/or combo guard? If so, I could certainly see her fitting into the MIchigan State system. As far as opportunities go, gosh knows Penn State needs players. Lots of them. That's if she wants to get closer to home.

If she wants to stay closer to home, gosh knows we've seen players like that at Middle Tennessee State. Lastly, doesn't this just seem like the kind of player Sean Poppie at Clemson will go after? Rachel Rose only had one year at Clemson, so he needs a reload.

I was surprised it took this long for the first.

(I even checked to see if there were any more befire posting. Latham is a big loss.)
Me too. The way folks were reacting. You would think that as soon as the game was over, the very next day, Lady Vol players were going to be rushing to put their names in the transfer portal. Skip the exit interview. Just head to the athletic office and put their names down for transferring.

I can't wait for the summer and I get to work the Lady Vols basketball camps. Should be very interesting.

She’s more a point, but she can shoot it. Of all those you named, Clemson intrigues me most. I’m sure Poppie knows a lot about her from his UT-Chattanooga days. She apparently is a good student, too. I watched her quite a bit in summer ball and just enjoyed her toughness. I would think MTSU would be a decent landing spot, too, at least in terms of closeness to home. I’m not sure location is even a factor with her.

I agree. I mean if your daughter was a top recruit and you watched this year unfold what would you say your kid?? Stay with your commitment??
On the question if top recruits will still go to Tenn, the earlier post showed for class of '26 - #9, #17, #20, #45 #57 and '27 - #2 #62.

So that's 7 top 100 hs recruits in Caldwell's first two classes.

Of course that was before the Feb/March swoon. So the big question out there is how many of this group stays with their commitment?

If most stay, she can continue building something with 'her' players. If most bail, it will be rebuild all over in yr 3.

Sure you can get transfers, but that does not really build culture, or ensure you get players to fit your scheme.

Some of these players, especially some of the frosh, are delusional. I don’t care how much NIL money a school has…the majority of them might get enough to upgrade their school meal plan.

Michigan bound? Would say Indiana, but she would be a one man team since everyone else is already leaving.
What makes you think she's looking at Michigan? Not saying she wouldn't be a good edition, but there are a lot of schools she could fit in well at. Also, Michigan's recruiting has brought in some talented players with more coming in. Trying to see how she would fit in without displacing someone else.

So, the reason for the ISU diaspora is because Audi is thinking of leaving? Not that she’s a bad teammate? What’s going to happen to Jada Williams in all of this?
