I disagree. Look at Bama, they're basically like us offensively (only 3s and shots around the basket), but they rely even more on the 3 ball and Oats has had them as the #2, #4, and #3 offense on KenPom the last 3 years.

The problem with this team offensively was simply that our shooters who we thought would be good enough, weren't quite good enough. Solo went from being a 40% shooter to 30% and Mullins was only 33% when expectations were that he would be somewhere in the high 30s at least.
I am not saying ignore the 3. But it would be nice if there were more options than throw it to the big guy or shoot a 3.

Yes, the Alabama teams look good to a computer, but did anyone tell the computer that the Final Four takes place in a dome?

You need players that can drive and get fouled, create off the dribble or be terrors on the offensive boards, too. A little variety.

Only thing changing it is if the players change so much he has to. He doesn’t have a Fab 5 after next year, no sophomore class and a small class coming in. Not sure he’s going to have many 3/4 year kids anymore.
i cant disagree with you there, the kids may force his hand. The 2 incoming freshman could/should get playing time but even that does not guarantee they remain.

Notably the 4 is our issue so ahem to a Duke PF portaler who seems AK esque..: Nikolas Khamenia 6’8” can hit a 3 rebound a little and has 3 years…

Just sayin’….
He's gonna probably cost a hefty bag though. Former 5-star recruit and played meaningful minutes for DOOK. I'd wager at least $3M for his services.

What about Paulius Murauskas? If he's been mentioned before, apologies. Here's a writeup from The Athletic:

Ht: 6-8 Wt: 225
The Lithuanian skilled 4 man has just gotten progressively better throughout every season of his career, culminating in him being the best player on an NCAA Tournament team at Saint Mary’s this past year who averaged 18 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this past season while shooting 48 percent from the field on one of the slowest-paced teams in the country. Randy Bennett used him very effectively as a mid-post scorer who could exploit less-gifted players on the block with his size or speed, and as a triple-threat catch-and-shoot weapon.

Murauskas will fit best in a slower offense that grinds out possessions and relies on strong decision-making with effective movement to get him loose. Teams that run sets regularly as opposed to read and react offenses should look into Murauskas, as he could challenge for an All-American berth as a senior in the right location.

When's the last time in this thread somebody discussed a transfer that UConn is actually connected to? I can't even find any after the first page
Well, it's the Boneyard, so you can always bet that it'll be off topic eventually.

But I guess people interpret the thread title as "portal players we think UConn should be interested in"

But yeah, it's become effectively useless for just finding out who UConn has contacted.

Apparently we have already reached out. He or Khamenia would be ideal replacements for Karaban in my opinion.

Reed was off all game because of Mara. They blocked like 7 shots some at crucial moments and dominated us in the paint so I'd say yes size was a key factor.
Size was absolutely a factor in the game, but my point was it had nothing to do with multiple things that could have gone differently that would have allowed us to win in spite of their size. I said and agree we didn’t have an answer for Mara.

Multiple times this year, hurley was in disbelief how bad the 3 point shooting was. Hence post game against duke when he said his own assistants wouldn't give the stats! Hurley seemed resigned in post game vs Michigan by saying we didn't make enough shots. Im sure he was aware they missed 21 3 point shots. He bit his tongue post game, didn't blame the kids for missing, but after the duke game and missing 21 3 pointers against Michigan, the look on his face almost said that he wished he coached the game differently. Duke/Michigan games were horrible from 3. Almost feels like Hurley was blaming himself for way to many 3 point attempts, especially when for 2 games they weren't dropping. Well maybe next year!
We haven’t been good from 3 in our last 4 tournaments

Question is - would you rather Hurley win with "his guys" even if he has to squeak out wins like he did this year, or would you rather he pull together the most bullet proof roster possible? The latter might mean blowing up guys he recruited out of HS.
That question is already answered. Plenty of guys that Hurley recruited out of high school have already left because Hurley recruited over them in the portal or with 5 star freshman. Rahsool, CFJ, Gaffney, Nowell, Abraham, Singare, Adams. I’m probably missing some

Solo was the best shooter in the conference last year. He shot 30% this year. We’re cutting down the nets if he shoots even average from three. That’s not him sticking with his guys, that’s him returning an all conference player that had a bad year

I think nobody’s starting spot is safe except Silas. Based on the list of guys UConn has shown interest in, we’re looking for really good guys at EVERY position

Get me Moustapha Thiam,
I would love for Hurley to go get Khamenia as the new Alex and turn him into a total gem to show up Scheyer.
I honestly thought “he seems like a Hurley guy” as much as i don’t want a Dukie, I think he maybe a great fit

ASU 7'1" Center Massamba Diop just entered the portal. Any intel on him? A Bobby Hurley recruit....

Tremendous defensive player/shot blocker. Going into his sophomore season- has a nice touch around the basket, but is not highly skilled offensively. Smaller frame- makes it up for it with his length & shot block activity. I would def try to get him if you can considering he has three years left & would think is going to get stronger & more offensively skilled. Averaged 13.6ppg 5.8reb 2.1blk as a freshman in the Big 12.

I'm assuming you're talking about this season. TBF, Solo had a good game shooting from 3 against Michigan (3-7).

He has a Do Not Contact, which means he's probably already whittled his list down.

Hopefully we're on it. I mentioned him way back in December and have been tracking all year. He's my No. 1 portal want.
I would tend to agree considering his talent & he is only going into sophomore season. Hopefully the Hurley ties help!!

Newest article from Dave here. Nothing really new that isn’t already out there. Seems like we should have a solid core coming back & use the portal to help supplement. Replacing Alex is really hard so I’m in favor of targeting a forward with a bit more athleticism & strength even if it means a dip in shooting. Add another center with some size as well to platoon with Reibe and they’re in a good spot. Obviously depends on who comes and goes too but UConn’s in a good spot.

Can anyone explain what a "DNC" means in practice? Is it not the equivalent of saying "I've already been tampered with"? How is it allowed?

Maybe officially it means "I already know which team(s) I want to contact, so don't bother reaching out to me" but in reality "I've been tampered with and already have a deal, don't waste your time calling me", yeah.

Mine, too... Dude has lottery pick talent and crazy agility for a 7-1 guy. With the DNC, though, it tells me it's all over and done with.

That's the general assumption, but not necessarily. In other cases it's just saying they want to reach out to the coaches and teams instead of getting 100 phone calls the first hour

I simply cannot understand how people keep posting guys we have zero connection to.

UCONN INTEREST ONLY, meaning there are somewhat credible reports that one side or the other has interest.
