2026 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Our staff is amazing with bigs and I want another giant on the team.
Giant rim protectors(Clingan, Mara, Krivas) are cheat codes in CBB. The shooting is generally worse than the pros and team rely heavily on paint points for the efficiency. When you completely take that away it makes you hard to beat

I’m warming up to the idea of Ross at the 4. Screens/Cuts/Open 3s, and defend larger wing forwards. He’d be a little small, but he’s actually close to Alex’s size, and more athletic. If it allows two ball handlers, Demary and Wilkins?/Tahaad?, and hopefully Mullins back at the 3, that lineup could be nice.

Tahaad/Wilkins
Demary
Mullins
Ross
C or Reibe

Solo 6th man
Landrew/Stew backing up the forwards
C or Riebe
County or vet PG

Someone probably gets cut off the 9 deep in tougher games, but that’s a solid plan on paper.

It does make you wonder if we should try to find and retain smaller PGs - kid like this can be someone you have for 4 years in a leadership role. Maybe we tried that with Nowell and it didn’t work we hoped.

I know we like the tall PGs, but I think there is a way to be tall everywhere else and be lightning quick at PG.
KW, SN, RB proved speed and quickness can be as important or moreso in the right player. Look what freshman Nigel James was able to do this year and what SB and RB did to the twin 6'5" Kentucky guards in the 2014 FF.

No way, that team is way too small and skinny.

That’s the thing that stuck out to me this weekend. We were by far the smallest and least athletic of the 4 teams. Some good shooting on Saturday and overall toughness and heart for the weekend (and the best coach in America) almost got them to the finish line.

Question is - would you rather Hurley win with "his guys" even if he has to squeak out wins like he did this year, or would you rather he pull together the most bullet proof roster possible? The latter might mean blowing up guys he recruited out of HS.

Looks like a mid 20teens nova squad.

Do whatever it takes to build an elite roster is what I say. I want us to be able to be in that tier that Michigan, Arizona, and Duke were all year where you knew those were the 3 most talented teams, no question about it. I thought our roster this season was talented, but more so top 8ish not top 3 or 4. If we can have a top 4 roster in terms of talent combined with Hurley's coaching, then we'll be able to compete for Final Fours every year.

I try to keep an open mind about all suggestions but Ross and or Stew cannot be our starting four. Just no.

Who are these guys that need "blowing up" and why would any future recruit believe the line that Hurley is selling after he did this? And remember, this is UConn so it usually isn't "come for top dollar" -- Hurley have to sell players on team, hard-work, loyalty, and development.

Multiple times this year, hurley was in disbelief how bad the 3 point shooting was. Hence post game against duke when he said his own assistants wouldn't give the stats! Hurley seemed resigned in post game vs Michigan by saying we didn't make enough shots. Im sure he was aware they missed 21 3 point shots. He bit his tongue post game, didn't blame the kids for missing, but after the duke game and missing 21 3 pointers against Michigan, the look on his face almost said that he wished he coached the game differently. Duke/Michigan games were horrible from 3. Almost feels like Hurley was blaming himself for way to many 3 point attempts, especially when for 2 games they weren't dropping. Well maybe next year!

They do need to work on being less reliant on the 3, but I am not going to kill Hurley for landing Mullins. A lot of this particular problem will likely work its way out after the coming season (and the coming title led by the stellar three-point shooting).

Only question is, will he want to become a better player at uconn or move to the nba to become a better shooter? Maybe its just me but I didn't see nba level shooting from a consistent basis. Especially in the tournament. At the end of the day! Was the highly dependent 3 point shooting offensive hurley or Luke Murray? Either way it does need to be much less reliant on 3 point shooting
