2026 schedule and search for 12th game

We better go at least 4-3 (based on so many unknown quantities next year), 5-2 would be great, 6-1 would be stellar, and 7-0 would be out of this world.

I certainly am guessing, but my approach while looking at next year is that we will have better balance on both sides of the ball. i will be shocked if our defense does not show significant improvement. If the offense can be solid (average?), I am expecting 8 or more wins against this schedule. I’ll be curious to see what the over/under for wins will be.

Candle's average record over the last 9 years is 8-5 (including bowl games). Lots of close losses to P4 teams and lots of close losses in road conference games.

Tough schedule next year (only 4 "sure" wins I see), and nobody knows what to make of this team. I'm gonna guess the over under is set at 6.5 wins - if so, take the over!

That sounds right at this time. We are an unknown quantity. Hopefully for us there is some kind of end-of-spring public thing we can lay our eyes on.

6.5 for the o/u seems about right to me too. Apart from Umass and Lafayette, our easier games are on the road and our tougher games are home. Could set up for a feast or famine type of season. Who we play in the 12th game could have a big impact on whether or not we end up bowling.

I think 6-6 is realistic given that the schedule is pretty tough. Like it or not P4 games are a high bar, even bad ones ( well maybe not BC but we don’t play them) plus James Madison should be very good again. ODU is an unknown I think. Road games are all tricky. 2 western trips plus Temple will be fired up to play us as they always are.

And who knows what we have and how it will jell. I didn’t count but read something like 65 new players. And a whole new staff. I could see this being a transition year. Given his history I think Candle will figure out a way to get 6 wins. Better than that and it will be a great job. If he gets 8 it will be remarkable.

I think the over/under will be around 5. New coach…new team. Not an easy schedule.

Now….i do think they will beat that number…but I think a lot of people think a major part of the success the last two years was Mora…and I don’t think Candle’s rep is strong enough to overcome that.

Memphis is out. Just announced home-home with UNLV right after I posted this.
Is Memphis a place UConn fans wanted to travel to?

How well we integrate a massive turnover on the OL will determine a lot of this. Blocking allow for the development of every skill position and gives you defense the opportunity to reset between series. First downs are a big deal unless you have multiple big play guys which most teams do not.

This game is several years away but just got a whole lot more oomph if it still happens.

If we’re going by the 4theCycle’s tweet about an American opponent, that leaves us with FAU again which is kinda lame but it is what it is

I’d honestly prefer a more unique opponent like Jacksonville State, they’re one of the better CUSA teams. Southern Miss I’d also be down for since they need a non-FCS home game.

Why not try to get someone like NDSU, Montana State or UND. UND could be interesting because then AD Dave can also schedule them for hockey. UND is considered one of the premier hockey schools outside of Hockey East.

I think only one FCS game can count toward bowl eligibility.

Zero recruiting benefit scheduling away games and near zero alumni and other UConn fans in the Dakotas, already playing one FCS, already flying long distance for Air Force and Wyoming away games, no reason UConn could not schedule a hockey home-and-away with UND, etc.

FAU filled out their schedule with an FCS game. The rumor from a CT Insider article was that we’ll play FIU, but that isn’t confirmed. Think we were supposed to play them on the road in 2027, so makes sense if we just move it up a year as we already have a ton of road games scheduled for 27

And we are not playing at an FCS opponent unless it is Yale and that would only be a once in a lifetime deal for PR purposes. In fact the chances we’d even do that are less than 1%

Would be nice if Uconn plays Yale in the bowl. Plenty of Uconn fans down here in southern Connecticut. Think about us for once. We buy season tickets too. While you are at it Mr. Benedict how about a baseball game in New Haven. Yale has a great baseball faculty. Also Modern Pizza is only a 5 minute drive from Yale Bowl.

There’s no reason for us to play at Yale. Besides, I don’t think Ivies really play FBS teams. I know we hosted Yale a couple years back, but that was a one off because it was our first year of independence, and we played 2 FCS schools that season
