2026 schedule and search for 12th game

Home and Home with them, no paying them when UConn needs the money as well
Even if you’re only looking at money, it’s more complicated than that. By buying home games two straight years, instead of playing someone home and home, you get one additional home date every other year which translates into additional revenue (and lower expenses avoiding one road trip every other year).

-> Old Dominion and UConn scheduled a home-and-home series a few years ago, which was set to begin at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Va., on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026. The return game was slated for the following season at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2027.

Both of those games have been changed, according to a copy of an amendment to the contract obtained from Old Dominion University via a state Freedom of Information Act request.

The date of the first game remains the same — Nov. 21, 2026 — but the contest will now be played at UConn’s Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The return game in 2027 has been postponed one season and is now scheduled to be played on Oct. 28, 2028, at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk. <-

Seven home games

2026, an additional away game. Barring further rejigging, current 7 home games (Lafayette, Maryland, Syracuse, UMess, UNC Chapel Hill, JMU, ODU) and 5 away (1 TBD, Miami OH, Temple, Air Force, Wyoming).

Subject to changes:

2027, current schedule

2028, current schedule
BTW this is a really good home schedule. 3 P4s. James Madison, even UMass who we have played 100 times.

We should try to get a H/H with a P4 to finalize the schedule. On the road this year and at home next.

Possible games I could see

Ranked in my biased personal order:

10/17 at USF (we should play them whenever we can)
10/17 at Memphis (we should play them whenever we can)
9/19 at USC (the california one) (Do we need the money? We don't need it for schedule strength. They aren't coming here)
10/17 at Kent State (meh...)

crazy talk (maybe?) some tie-in with Pac 12 as they haven't finished their scheduling process yet.

Memphis is out. Just announced home-home with UNLV right after I posted this.

Of the 2 current open weeks, a 9/19 game would enable a mid-season 10/17 bye week. Whether a possible 9/19 opponent exists, that’s the best scenario.

With 2 existing long distance opponents (USAFA 10/31, Wyoming 11/29?), Cal’s not ideal for UConn. Cal also doesn’t enjoy required ACC cross country trips, so a home & away contract is unlikely.

Not many potential opponents with 9/19 openings exist, but Benedict & Co could be working with schools to potentially re-jig their 2026 schedules, e.g., FAU vs FIU 9/19.

Is Benedict stacking home games in 2026 because there’s a P4 invite coming? Things that make you go hmmm
With games scheduled years in advance what happens to scheduled games if Uconn ends up in a conference with a full conference slate of games.

Is there a payout by Uconn for cancelling games?

Usually they get rescheduled as non-conference games over time. A few might end up being bought out. Depending on the conference some might end up being league games.

Yes.. typically there is a buy out from either team in the event of a cancelation. Sometimes to mitigate the cost, schools will help to match partners who are looking for games or they may delay/change schedules to years in the future. If UConn found the right conference partner, they will figure out how to make it work.
