2026 recruiting breakdown

That's great to here, as it bodes well. But it's a stacked draft and I haven't seen him going anywhere near the first in any mock. Who does he go ahead of? Guys like Isiah Evans, Meleek Thomas & Bennett Stirtz are being mocked in the mid 20s. It opens up a little on the very back end, but is that gonna be worth testing? Maybe he pulls a Proctor and just goes even if the second, sure. To me, I'd say the smart move is being developed by Uconn for another year, grabbing the NIL and waiting for a very weak draft.
Either scenario is a great result for the huskies

If Silas plays great and becomes a more well rounded player for UConn it’s a real good thing. And I agree with you on Solo he needs to prove he can do more than shoot the ball as that’s his obvious strength. He has a wonderful mid range game which he didn’t use enough but also had trouble finishing at the rim so that’s a required improvement to move into draft talks. We all know the defensive struggles we had but he acknowledged them so I expect improvement there.

So....where are we with these guys? Who does the staff really want most of all and have a shot with?

We should get someone(s) and if not will get them from the portal. Book it.

Of course if you want conjecture you’ll get plenty of that.

Ball is a great shooter but that was about it last season. 6’3 is meh for an NBA SG and he doesn’t have the ball handling and passing skills of a CG. As a 6’5 PG Demary definitely profiles better heading into the season.

Ball has a 7 foot wing span and a 43 inch vertical leap. At 6-3+ that makes a big difference in his ability to get open looks than most players his size.

Solo has also shown to be a good rebounder for a guard, probably related to the latter. He was also 4th on the Huskies in assists.

I know that’s very has been stated before, but we never really see it. If he can start to use his athleticism more he has the NBA future, but he needs to begin to attack

Great measurables, not sure he really uses them to his advantage as someone that has shown to be exclusively a plus only in the shooting category. Anyone using them would be going up and over guys in some way. He averaged 3.5 rebounds per 31.5 mpg last year, but improved there towards end of year. Not sure I'd call him a plus rebounder, but has shown some flashes. You're losing some cred when you start getting into the assists as reaching - kid averaged 1.5 assists, mainly because he was on the floor a lot more than others. You or I could back into an assist in those kinda minutes - not a strength at all.

Not a heck of a lot in this article other than no Toure. Not much mention of Mingo though which concerns me a bit.

With all that in mind, expect only one or two commitments for the Huskies this fall. And neither to be Abdou Toure.

So I guess we shouldn't get too excited about recruiting these days.

You should, but the recruiting that happens in March ;). It's where most of the smart coaches are using their $$. Hurley ain't dumb - he tried it last year with a 3 guy class that turned into the class equivalent of spam in ROI.

I continue to think the place to really make your mark is recruiting rising sophomores and juniors. Multi-year keeps, most who probably don't want to transfer more than 1x. Can still cultivate culture but with proven commodities. Like a Reed, like a Demary.

Why it makes zero sense to get panties in a knot over HS'ers anymore. I know it's hard to give up because there is something really intoxicating about following the circuit and seeing what Uconn can land, but it's just not where coaches bread their butter anymore. Especially with a weak class, especially when you can pick them off in the portal after you watch them for a year.

I have always really enjoyed recruiting season and Hurley and Co have done a phenomenal job building this program and bringing in players that will represent the program well. A little bummed we aren’t getting Cloer and I have no idea why we didn’t go harder for Toure.

I'm pretty damn excited about our recruits and I think they will have huge roles this season.

Solo averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per/40 as a guard. Passing and rebounding are two of the biggest things he needs to improve on.

Spencer: 5.9/4.4
Hawkins: 5.2/1.7
Bouk: 7.2/2.3
B Adams: 4.2/3.0

He was a sub par rebounder and assist guy. Rebounding improved toward end of year. Not sure is that was him getting better or just the ball bouncing his way. He certainly has the athletic tools, just hope he learns how to use them. His drive is timid and he almost never used the vertical. He certainly can be a multi tool player and i hope he opens the tool box this year

Yes, there are a lot of guys that can do awesome dunks in layup lines but don't "play athletic." Solo has shown some athleticism, especially on blocks and rebounds but he hasn't played as athletic as his measurables suggest he would....which is great for us because if he did he would already be in the NBA

I wish some writer would at least ask the staff why we seem to have no interest in particular regional prospects or ranked players that we might have a connection with. #39 6'10 Quinn Costello played in Mass and knocked the lights out this spring and is going to Michigan. He would have been the best Karaban replacement on the board in my opinion, never any known interest from UConn. #80 6'9 230lb Tristan Reed will be another Tarris Reed and we seem to like that, but never a mention. #59 6'10 Sam Funches as the son of a UConn player and being highly ranked, never a mention. Just doesn't seem like writers have any curiosity. I think as fans we'll wish we had Reed and Costello.

Love that Bryan Adams ran those kinda numbers in addition to coming out with hits like Cuts Like a Knife.

I think Borges is reading tea leaves here. Hurley does really give the local guys much. I like no mention of Mingo as I feel like the staff have kept that one close to the vest on purpose.

Someone tried that 17 years ago

They don't ask because they wouldn't get an answer. Coaches aren't even allowed to talk about the commits by name until they officially sign their NLI. I can't imagine they'd be allowed to talk about any of those guys

I know from some experience that sometimes the coaches and assistant coaches talk to media people "off the record" about certain recruits if the narrative has an intention. Not sure Hurley does that though.

Can we rename this thread? It's cursing our 2026 recruiting efforts!

And I just realized how similar NLI and NIL are (at least in spelling)

NLI no longer exists. It was eliminated 12 months ago. They now sign an athletic grant-in-aid. Flexible and non-binding for everyone involved.

All the other Mingo threads are locked and I didn't want to start another thread just for this so it's going in here. Certainly sounds like he will be making visits to all his serious suitors.

“I want to play for a coach that values me a lot,” Mingo said. Well, not even just the coach, the whole program. I want to have a strong relationship with the coaches, especially the head coach, and the whole coaching staff. And a winning program. I’d like to compete for a championship, and also a program that’s willing to play a freshman.”

Doesn't seem like an unrealistic ask.
