No Masters thread where we can document everyone picking the wrong winner this year?

Rory in the clubhouse at -5. Of Nicklaus, Faldo and Tiger who repeated, the -5 for Rory is the lowest opening rd of any of them.
Sheffler at -2 through 11. Missed a few shots you expect him to have made but should be in okay position unless Amen Corner eats him up.
Freddy turned back the clock on the front but just carded a 9 on a par 5 and a double on the following par 3 to jump to +4.

Weather is supposed to be perfect all weekend.

Scheffler has played terrible on Thursdays and heats up. If he can start at a -3 or -4 today he has my vote to win.

Picked 7 golfers to win. How they look so far is as follows:

Rahm +1000 — Um, wtf?

Åberg +1700 — Great front 9, fell apart as soon as he hit the turn. Still think he can make a run to get back to top 10 since he’s always finished strong here. Maybe contend to win if no one makes a move at the top.

X +1750 — I think he’ll be in contention come Sunday. Been knocking on the door here and driver seems to be on fire.

Cam Young +2200 — Terrible start but started to figure it out. Not sure if the pressure of being a popular pick got to his head but I think he can still make a run at top 10 by end of the tourney as well.

Fitz +2300 — Kind’ve unsure as to how he’ll end up. Solid round today until double on 18. Another popular pick to start the week.

Rose +3500 — Been knocking on the door here. Bogey, bogey end wasn’t what the doctor ordered. Based on history, he’ll be in contention come Sunday.

Reed +4200 — Don’t like the dude but he plays well here every year. Thought he was fighting for leader in the clubhouse after 1, but another who slightly ruined a great or OK round late.


As to who I think will actually win? Rory. Monkey seems to be off his back and he’s clearly playing with house money this year.

Great thing is that this is the Masters and weird stuff happens here. Couple that with the course shaping up to play the toughest it’s been in a few years with it drying out over the weekend due to no rain. Top of the leaderboard should be jumbled a ton when they all go out together Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Should be fun.

I don't know what to think, but I do think there is and has been some sort of conspiracy out there to keep Tiger from returning to the tour and winning another major. Is it that crazy to think they didn't want a "non-white person" to be the undisputed all time best at an all white sport? Think about it.

Was rooting for Rory to finally get the jacket last year. Now he's playing loose without the pressure. This year, I don't have any particular rooting interest. I always love when the old guys make the cut and was hoping Freddy would keep playing well. Justin Rose looks to be playing well again. I would have liked to see Collin Morikawa contend, but he's not been good.

I've analyzed the first two days and I think Rory might win.

Rory is soon turning 37 but he could be starting a Tiger run of dominance. He’s very rarely injured, has a tremendous training and diet program, has a stable home life and non risky lifestyle and with the pressure off can play loose and relaxed now that he has won all four majors. He’s was already one of the best drivers on tour and his short game and putting are good. It’s moving day so someone has to do it and Rory has to fall back which on this course is entirely possible. DeChambeau missed the cut on the last hole yesterday with a triple bogey, he went from +3 to +6 and the cut was +4.

I'm bummed I'm already out in my Masters pool. It was one of those pick 6 guys in different categories things. I had Bahtia as one of my guys - he's been playing well and I thought he had the distance and accuracy to handle Augusta.

The course setup is way too easy. The only thing protecting this course in ideal weather conditions are the greens, and they are simply not fast enough to keep scores reasonable. Expecting top scores to approach -20 under by Sunday. Ridiculous. This is playing more like the Phoenix Open than a traditional Masters.
