2026-27 scholarships grid

Ok, so who wants me to post my updated grid, just in time for a transfer announcement? 🤣
Depends—would doing so magically summon a player we'd like to add? If so, I'd say it's worth it. (While you're doing so, maybe try chanting "Jor-dan Lee, Jor-dan Lee" to manifest her arrival.) 🤓

How busy are you otherwise 🤔 🤣?
Ok, so, there's been, um, a bit of activity here on the BY since last Friday, so ...

Based on MOPO of how things work at UConn, I'm going to wait a few days. After all, the team had to get home, do end of season chats, and then we saw Yanna and Ice say goodbye (boohoo!). So then the staff starts combing thru the list of names based on what they think they need for 26-27 and who they are focusing on for 27-28, I'm thinking I'll post the grid within 4-5 days. After all, the portal is open until April 20th, and visits don't need to be done by then.

I don’t get how this is a response to anything I wrote. Sure, the portal is here to stay, blah blah blah. That doesn’t mean Geno has to worship at that altar.

And sure, transfers are older and in some cases more developed than freshmen. So what? The whole point of building a team around developing talent is to actually develop talent. I won’t bother listing the benefits to team culture and playing as a team instead of a bunch of one-v-one games.

And I never said Geno shouldn’t look for someone in the portal. I just invited folks to consider the talent already on the roster.
Thank you for your note. I may have read more into your note than you intended and written less about what you wrote than I should have.

Player development is extremely important and for the health of the program, every player should be given the coaching and opportunities to develop their game, enjoy the college experience and have a successful career after graduation. So yes, it would be interesting if Geno decided to not add any players to the current roster of 12.

That said, if there are attractive opportunities to make the team better and pursue the next championship, Geno has three slots to use now and the transfer portal creates options that should not be ignored.

We all agree with you that we wish it wasn't so, and we all remember with a tear, the good old days before NIL and the portal. Unfortunately, now, to be a NC champion bringing in veteran transfers before high school prodigies is the path all who wish to contend are taking. Sad, but true...

Maybe so. But iirc, we just won a national championship with almost no reliance on transfers. There was just the one little (5’9”) guard who almost nobody here thought we needed. Geno definitely did not build that championship run on transfers.

So, maybe “the path all who wish to contend are taking” isn’t the only one or the best one.

.-.
Ok so if Ice and Ayanna do not get picked up by other teams they are still on UCONN's team, right?

Might want to wait on those updates till the smoke clears.

Specifically:
» After notifying your current school of your intent to transfer, a Division I school can cancel or reduce your athletically related
financial aid for the next academic term and subsequent terms.
» After notification, your original school is NOT obligated to take you back as a student-athlete.

Why all the discussions about Gandy; If she hasn't played a significant role by now she never will. She is a history figure in some of the players Geno recruits. Two to three minutes at the end of the game with Uconn up thirty points.

I don't it's justifiable to jump to this conclusion. None of us knows the degree of development that's taking place behind the scenes or is privy as to how Geno views her at present or for the future.

This has been discussed quite a bit. Check out this link for the why's.

I agree, we should wait to see what Gandy’s development looks like after this past years efforts and over the offseason. Girls with her strength, quickness, mobility and SIZE are rare. Previous films show her unafraid of contact and uses her body to make her moves. Sarah is saying her block ability has grown a lot. i I look forward to seeing her next year. I hope (but feel) she will be a rotation player next season.

Really, jumping to conclusions?? Geno put her in the game a couple of times and when he did i went out to get a drink of water. When i came back she was on the bench.
