2026-2027 Non con schedule

I’m wondering

With 6 big games looking like they will happen

Does Hurley stay at 6, go to 7 or 8.

I really don’t think he wants more than 2 big games in a row

If he gets to 8 big games that would force him to at most get 1 buy game at the start

Starting to think 7 may be better than 8, get a couple buy games before starting big games

My thoughts on game 7 are in this order

Arkansas jimmy v
Kentucky jimmy v
UNC in CT (I don’t see 2 big road games with us playing Illinois in Chicago, at Arizona)
Gonzaga in CT (for those not loving Gonzaga on the schedule, they get good seeds, help our resume and they play better in the non con l)

The team I would like to see on the schedule is Alabama. Nate oats is a great coach. Nate and Dan are friends so I’m not sure they schedule a non con game.

Would someone come up to play at Mohegan sun? Probably not but it would be cool.

All for getting them on the calendar - it was too long between games last time. The idea of getting Mullins back on the floor against them would be fire.

CBB is moving towards more of a feature format, seeing teams top programs play each other regularly.

If the money is right then definitely. I don’t know much about the financials on that end but it feels like it’s moving to a prize fighting model which UConn needs.

It is, and that game may be the most anticipated non con game of the year - almost silly not to have it, too good an opportunity.

Vegas has become like taking a cruise. A constant battle to get into your wallet. I'm surprised pay toilets haven't made a comeback.

Your right. A UConn vs Duke / St.John’s vs Carolina on a holiday weekend is a goldmine. That’s why it’ll get done.

Agree, this needs to be a scheduling thresholds every season. 1 elite OOC on both Hartford and Storrs. The MSG and TBN games are great but not at the expense of that fundamental for our season ticket holders who also are seat donation donors.

I’m a firm believer that playing more games at MSG in November thru January tires out the fanbase for when we actually need them in MSG in March.

Gentlemen, although you both make good points there is a very important piece to this equation that you are failing to take into account. You both talk as if Benedict and Hurley are able to dictate the terms of where we play our games without having to take the financial effect of each game into account. And, how much money we make for hosting a top team at home versus playing them at a neutral site or on the road.

As long term "non-casual" fans of this program you should both realize by now that Benedict and Hurley must take the financial benefit of each and every OOC game they schedule into account. Particularly since, as we all know, our athletic department has been running at a sizable deficit for over a decade, according to reputable sources.

Additionally, from Google: "For a high-profile school like UConn, playing a top-ranked opponent at a neutral site is generally more lucrative than hosting a traditional home-and-home game."

So in an optimal world where we are not facing yearly budget deficits, you are both correct.

Unfortunately, Benedict and Hurley are unable to operate in that optimal world that you are both using for your rationale. They both have to operate and make decisions based upon the real world situation of the financial constraints of our athletic department budget of each game they schedule. Be thankful that they significantly upgraded the home schedule this last year (something you, Chief, have been lobbying for over at least the last 5 years) and plan to keep it that way moving forward.

Hopefully they can manage to schedule 2 high quality home games on a yearly basis. But if they aren't, at least acknowledge the financial situation they are faced with.

I understand that, I made my point at the expense of financial literacy. However I doubt the Google AI takes into account concessions, parking cut, etc.

I’m fine playing neutrals, I just hate the idea of playing Duke on a neutral. They don’t have the right to dictate where they play us. TV partners do if the check is big enough. But them refusing a home/home doesn’t sit well with me.

AI also doesn't take into account the sentiments and tolerance of the season ticket base.

That's because all the conference realignment has diluted regular season play, people care about it so much less. Its become nothing more than jostling for a tournament berth and seeding and less about the games for themselves.

Not sure it's mattered for awhile. Us BE fans like to think the BE/BET are a big deal, yet none of the rest of the country cares. Rightfully so, it's jostling for one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

Issue is mainly with talent consolidating at the top, no one cares about UConn/Butler. They want to see best vs best.
 
I would love to see the Huskies keep playing prime out of conference neutral site games in Boston. There are fans and money to be made there. It enhances the brand. We should own New England.

Its sort of funny, because I think you're absolutely right, yet 95% of the fanbase would be up in arms at the suggestion that every game at MSG isn't "Storrs South".

Unfortunately you find very little info about the title in many of these posts. If guys just want to have a casual conversation they should take it elsewhere

If the non conference is more challenging than last year which was needed with a weak conference and the BE is not a pushover because of portal strengthening can we have a schedule which is too tough? How many ranked teams are likely to be in the BE this year? We could have a 10 loss season.

That may be true, but on the optimistic side, with a strong SOS and some quality wins along the way, we may not get a terrrible seed. If we do, and we knock off a few of the better teams in the region earlier on, then the path becomes easier in the region.

Just trying to be positive here. We won a Natty with a 7th seed a few years ago, and beat a ton of supposedly better teams in the tournament.

Hope we don't lose 10.

Does UVA have enough cachet to carry a MSG game? Or maybe part of Jimmy V?

They gotta schedule one more good home OOC game. One for each venue.
