Thought this was a cool moment last night. A lot of respect between these two.
The Wings thread on the main board has some discussion of Greg Bibb's postmortem/future plans, which has drawn some criticism.Washington Mystic's Off-Season Analyzed by Her Hoops Stats' Richard Cohen
Whole article is linked below, but here are some quick hitters if you're in a hurry:
- "Under contract: Kiki Iriafen, Sonia Citron, Georgia Amoore, Jacy Sheldon, Lucy Olsen."
- "2026 draft picks: The Mystics hold three 2026 first-round picks. Their own; Seattle's, from the midseason Brittney Sykes trade; and Minnesota's from the Karlie Samuelson trade. They also gained swap rights between that Minnesota pick and New York's pick from the Aaliyah Edwards/Jacy Sheldon deal, so ultimately they'll be picking where New York, Seattle and Washington finish in the order. '
- "Assuming the system under the new CBA means (Shakira) Austin and (Sug) Sutton remain restricted free agents, they'll have to judge what they're worth. They'll particularly want to avoid losing Austin, although given her injury history, they might be hoping to avoid paying her true top-end money."
- Best line: "The most obvious spot to target a free agent signing (or trade move) would be on the wing next to Citron — someone like Jackie Young would be ideal, but approximately 15 teams will want to sign her."

2025-26 WNBA Offseason Guides: Washington Mystics
A team that held on to playoff possibilities for much longer than anticipated, our WNBA offseason guides now take a close look at the Mysticsherhoopstats.substack.com
Restricted free agents can negotiate with other teams but their team gets to keep them as long as they match the terms. The Wings thread on the main board has some discussion of Greg Bibb's postmortem/future plans, which has drawn some criticism.
There was an article in the WaPo this morning about the Mystics' end-of-season press conference, which was quite upbeat despite their ending the season on a ten-plus-game losing streak. Sounds weird, but despite that they won more games than most expected, and with their two all-star rookies plus the others to build around, three first-round draft picks, and plenty of cap room to keep Austen and get a good vet or two, things really do look pretty good. I'd love for them to keep Engstler, but I'm not management material.
Anyone want to enlighten me on the difference between restricted and reserved free agents?
Should the blue reference be for "reserved?" If so, very thorough explanation and appreciated. If not, which one is?Restricted free agents can negotiate with other teams but their team gets to keep them as long as they match the terms.
Restricted player contracts are for players who have been under a W contract for less than three seasons. They may negotiate only with their own team, and as long as they receive a qualifying offer, they have to take it or sit out the season. If they don't receive a qualifying offer, they become a free agent on Feb. 1.
Players end up on restricted player contracts two ways: (1) they were previously waived while on a rookie contract and then signed a full season contract with a new team; or (2) a lot of European players end up on restricted player contracts because they sit out seasons to play overseas and often come in having been undrafted.
On the Valkyries, we have both: Chen and Amihere are the first category, and Salaun and Rupert are the second.
Yes, thanks, sorry, that's what happens when I try to engage in complex legalese on my phone. Fixed!Should the blue reference be for "reserved?" If so, very thorough explanation and appreciated. If not, which one is?
Fantastic accomplishment for Collier. For good measure, A'ja Wilson is right there too with 50.4/39.3/85.4 entering tonight's game. Her volume of 3pt shots is lower, but both have had remarkable seasons nonetheless. One of the MVP candidates is now shooting 50/40/90. The only other player to shoot 50/40/90 was EDD in one of her MVP years.
I don't think the Lib are going to get anywhere near the Finals series. Unless they flip some kind of switch they have not shown they possess this season. They'll only play one of Minnesota and Nyl to win the championship.
@MilfordHusky I saw a picture of Brink w/ quite a bit of blood around her nose. She left the game and it was determined she would not be able to return. I'm guessing her nose is broken, but I don't know that for sure. Ah, a bit of googling now confirms it's broken. Well she won't have to play wearing a mask, since the Sparks are done for the season.
Wow, Smith extended her arm A LOT, that's what broke the nose. No offensive foul called. Completely missed call by the refs, par for the course. Could've easily been a Flagrant 1 if they reviewed it.
How many 30/10 games did Wilson have? I can almost guarantee more than anybody else has ever had in a season, probably by a wide margin. Yeah they play more games now, but she had A BUNCH of dominant performances.Wilson had a great season, but I think 50/40/90 is unique. 50/39/85 is really good, but I think others have done that. Stewie had 53/42/82 in 2018. Phee had 52/41/83 in 2020. A'ja had 52/32/84 in 2024. Chelsea had 51/48/83 in 2017. Nneka had 67/62/87 in 2017. Jackie had 52/45/87 in 2023. Sue had 47/45/83 in 2018. Maya had 51/45/88 in 2013. Diana had 46/41/89 in 2009.
Kelsey was never someone who lacked confidence. She was not the glue. If she has the ball in her hands to much she is sure to make stupid decisions. With the Aces they kept her fairly under control until Chelsea was out for most of the year and the team went back to hero ball. It seemed to take them until the later half of this season to get back to the type of game that won them two championships. No one is kinda talking about this but Kelsey Plum went on She Bird's podcast. It was a great episode. But she did kinda talk crazy and say I was the glue in Vegas. And basically was saying I was one of if not the most important piece. And since then I don't think the Aces have lost. Lololol. Maybe it's just a coincidence Idk I thought it was kinda wild. And I do think Vegas is a legit finals threat. They'll only play one of Minnesota and Nyl to win the championship.

Good morning, gentlemen. I'm pretty sure we know who'd win the MVP vote here on the Boneyard but, Milford Husky, Wilson actually finished 50/43/85, which is pretty darned comparable to Napheesa's 53/40/90 season, and she had a significant lead in rebounding and blocks. How many 30/10 games did Wilson have? I can almost guarantee more than anybody else has ever had in a season, probably by a wide margin. Yeah they play more games now, but she had A BUNCH of dominant performances.
