Thanks for all your various posts, nwhoopfan, both today and in general. They're informative, fair-minded and do a lot to keep me updated.

One note on this one: Loyd had 20, yes, but nine were in garbage time, sort of reminiscent of a few years ago when she led the WNBA in scoring by filling it up without helping the team much when it most counted. I don't know if Bell is an adequate alternative to start for the Aces, but a change was long overdue. Jewell has been living off her rep for a long time.
 
I am sooooooo impressed with Brendan Glasheen - a real pro. The Connecticut Sun are painful to watch and Brendan is paired with a rookie color who is emerging in her ability to meaningfully had to the game.

Glasheen is both professional and entertaining and real asset.

My favorite line from the first half - the sun need to get back on defense and they're taking any shot.

Late in the first half ONO went up to block Malonga and was frantically twirling her hand after the foul. I would think she has a slight credibility problem asking for a review.

Looks like another day of impossible to predict outcomes. Seattle and Connecticut have both done a 180 since their previous game, which means the Storm are blowing out the Sun. Looks like NY could be in trouble until Stewie is back and/or when Meeseman joins them.
 
Triple double for Diggins-Smith. Is that her first? She's not exactly known for her rebounding.
 
Is anybody gonna catch Minnesota? Seems unlikely. NY just can't quite seem to get on a consistent roll and they keep dropping further behind the Lynx. Nobody else really in striking range.
 
Libs making a huge surge late, likely too little too late though. Was down 30 and now down 88-82 with 1:06 to go. I don’t think there’s anything more fun than watching an underdog play out of their minds and then the “good” team wakes up and storms back and makes a game of it
 
Dallas wins, Arike with 20 points, 14 assists and just 1 TO. Paige with a great night too. Fun game to watch.
 
The Wings game against the Liberty was a strange one (Maybe not so strange as the Wings are so inconsistent)...the Wings playing like one of the best team in the W, running all over the Liberty and leading by 30 only to have some bone head plays after bone head plays with the wrong players taking shots which are not their regular shots to have the Liberty cut it down to 6 till Paige and Carrington iced the game from the free throw line. I have to say that it's clear to see why H. Jones didn't catch on in the W. She just can't shoot...hands of stone and for whatever reason in the crucial part of the game she takes 2 3-point shots??? she barely makes lay ups...unreal

Her average FG% is is 47.2% for the season, which indicates her shooting isn't as poor as it may seem from yesterday's game.

With respect to catching on with a team, that same question could be asked every year about someone who was drafted in the first round. Atlanta definitely wasn't the right fit when Coach Wright was there. Not sure how much of a chance she got with Smesko, but based on how she's doing in Dallas, she doesn't look out of place in the league to me. Similar to college, it comes down to being with a team that's the right fit for her style of play.

I wonder if this is how Arike positions herself for next season. Stay or go, if Paige is the future of the league, she needs to balance her game in all aspects. If that’s how she’s thinking, then Paige has had an impact. Arike is a cagey veteran who can surely read the handwriting on the wall. She hasn’t gotten the glory she seeks as a ball-dominant shooter. Might as well learn a thing from the rookie who attracts admirers wherever she goes.

As for Haley, she’s never really found her niche, even after that episode be great year at Stanford. She’s a utility knife sort of player who does a lot of things pretty well but nothing exceptionally well. She’s got a good short range floater and nose for the ball. Everything else depends on her getting enough minutes to learn to read her teammates. Without that, she’s just a so-so shooter. She’s strong enough to muscle past smaller guards and too quick for bigger forwards. She really needs someone like Paige to open her game up for her.
 
Regarding Arike ...

In the four game since the All Star break, she is averaging 18.5 ppg while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 41.6 percent from three. She has 24 assists against 7 turnovers during that stretch.

It is a small sample size (1/11 of the WNBA season this year), but it is an interesting trend -- and the games were against good opponents, all of whom are ahead of Dallas in the standings.

I think Arike will still try to stay in Dallas. She's been their franchise player 6+ years and is beloved there. A lot of parallels between her and Kelsey Mitchell's situation. Both were standouts on a mediocre franchise and rarely had great teammates but consistently produced.

If the Wings get the #1 pick again, they have a very bright future building around Betts/Bueckers (similar to Indiana with Clark/Boston) and should be title contenders in the future. Arike slides in perfectly at the 2 guard spot like Mitchell does in Indiana, and I actually think Arike's game compliments Paige's quite well.

The biggest concern for Arike was usage and that she'd drown out Paige by taking too many shots or keeping the ball in her hands frequently, but she's significantly reduced her shot attempts and Paige has thrived playing alongside her. Arike hasn't played her best basketball this season, but you don't see her jack up nearly as many bad shots as she used to in the past, and I think the change exhibited by her sets up Dallas incredibly well for the future if they can land a good center. I know yesterday was a small example but Arike was passing up good shots to get teammates better shots, and if she continues to lean into that playing style, the Wings will be a force.

Applying for a visa that reportedly takes around 15 days, minimum, to approve. I snagged her in my fantasy league and have been checking daily. My best guess is she suits up in about a week's time, assuming the visa goes through right away.

It doesn't help when Sabally is out for 2 weeks. And Burke is also out with Stewie.
They had better not sign Sabally next year, not a good enough player and injury wise she's always out.
 
Ummm...anyone watching the Golden State v. Atlanta game and see the ahem "personal pleasure device" thrown on the court by someone in the audience? :eek:

Anyways, and more importantly, this has been a fun game. Tied at 75 with about 10 seconds left!

Or, it will be over early and the Aces will cruise to an easy win. I guess LA's hot streak had to end eventually.

Happy Brink is finally back. I imagine she has some rust to shake off.
 
Pretty fun and entertaining evening of games. The Mystics rookies combined for 50 points, Golden State pull off the win on a late shot, Cameron Brink returned!

There was a lime green…toy…thrown onto the court at the end of Atlanta/Golden State. And the Sparks mascot got dropped by a performer back flipping and kicking him over the head, which they showed a bunch of replays of. They did an injury report, he was ok!
