Marquiesha Davis was cut a couple days ago I recall. Not sure who else this week.

Trammel spent four years as an assistant with the Sparks.
Before that, she was an assistant in San Antonio, where she coached Dearica Hamby and Kelsey Plum.
She was known as a defensive-focused assistant.

She was hired as a Special Assistant to Head Coach Lynne Roberts.

Los Angeles is the second worst defensive team in terms of shots between 0 and 5 feet, allowing opponents to shoot over 63 percent (and on 24 attempts per game). They are also second worst in terms of shots between 15 and 19 feet, allowing 46.5 percent from that range. They are third worst in defensive rating.

Given the team is only two games behind the eighth playoff spot and expect Cameron Brink to return, it certainly cannot hurt to add a defensive-minded voice to the huddle.

They don't need Sherrod as a 4th guard. Cloud, Sabrina, Johannes will take up 80 minutes most nights. Then Gardner is listed as a guard, actually can be shooting guard or small forward. Fiebich guards the shooting guards so they have no need for Sherrod.

You're probably right. Its unfortunate for her and yet again another roster size issue....

Annie Costabile with interesting insight as to how the Liberty were able to sign Messeman.

"That desire to win multiple titles influenced the Liberty’s top players’ decision to sign team friendly contracts over the years. Not a single player on the Liberty roster is signed to a supermax deal, which has given Kolb more cap space to work with. Additionally, the Liberty lost Kayla Thornton to the Valkyries in the expansion draft, freeing up $110,000 in cap space. Kolb also suspended forward Betnijah Laney’s contract, valued at $180,000, after she had surgery for a knee injury she sustained as a relief player for Unrivaled.

After signing forward Stephanie Talbot on Monday the Liberty have about $120,000 in cap space. Meesseman’s contract will be prorated based on when she actually signs with the Liberty".
 
Looking forward to tomorrow's game in New York as the presumptive COY brings his squad to face the Liberty. Winning on the road is hard although Atlanta made that appear rather easy last night.

The remainder of the dog days of July will challenge all the w but in particular the Merc

JJ looked pretty good in her return.

They didn't the previous night against Vegas. Atlanta likes to go into Jekyll and Hyde mode with respect to which team shows up. Phoenix looked out of sorts to me yesterday. Maybe they'll have a better performance tomorrow.

Split on the road trip was probably satisfactory. I would guess most of the teams in the w would take a split in a New York minute.

Only four teams have a winning road record so far. Clearly that'll change as we slog through the dog days of July.

Four-time COY Cheryl Reeve has always underscored the importance of defending the home court where the Lynx are undefeated. New York also has an outstanding home record. The Phoenix experience of last night whether it's a debacle or merely being out of sorts is I think illustrative of coaching philosophy emphasis.

In any event tomorrow night in New York will be a fun game

Most likely, but losing the way they did in Vegas not so much, which is what I was referring to. Atlanta has been like this regardless of location (home/away) with respect to how they play. That's why I used the Jekyll and Hyde reference.

Definitely looking forward to the Mercury-Liberty game tomorrow night. With Sabally and Copper back, along with Bonner on the roster, this is an intriguing match up.
 
LA won again. Creeping back to .500 is not completely out of the question now. Not long ago they were 5-13. Plum dropped 30.
 
Chicago is missing Reese, Atkins, Sloot, and Onyenwere. They trail Seattle by 30+.

I saw the score but didn't know about all the missing players. Previous game Seattle was missing Diggins-Smith and got beat by Dallas by 24.

MoJeff played 1 minute. She couldn't have done worse than the other Sky players.
 
Maybe it’s just because they have no other semi-competent option at forward other than A’ja, but NaLyssa Smith seems to be a good fit with the Aces. Wouldn’t have given up the first-round pick for her though. It’s not like they’re contenders this year.

I agree, but Nalyssa's play does seem to justify the move somewhat. The real mistake was the three way trade with the Sparks and Seattle where they let Seattle have the second pick in the drart for Loyd. There was a seried in at about the 4:50 mark in the fourth where loyd made four bad plays that allowed the fever to advance their lead to nine points. Two bad plays on defense and on offense. She got pulled from the game right after that, but the damage was already done. Loyd is often a real liability on defense.

To get an easily replaceable Loyd they gave up a chance at getting Dominique Malonga a versitile 6'6 athetic 19 year old forward/center with a huge upside that who would have solidified their front court for the future. On a rookie salary at that. The opportunity to get a player of her capabiliies and future does not come along every year. Who ever pushed that decision should be whipped. That for a washed up guard which are a dime a dozen. Dominique would have brought both offense and defense to her position.

I swear, sometimes the choices made by people in positions of authority is shocking. Even if they thought loyd could be a replacement for Plum. that ship ( roster ) had shown itself to have already sailed. Plum knew that which is why she left. Plum is a vastly superior offensive threat than Loyd and as it turned out a even better defender. Loyd constantly gets beaten off the dribble and appears to have no concept of defensive spacing.in respect to help defense. It is obvious now why Seattle wanted to be rid of her.
 
Libs are blowing out Phoenix with a minimal game from Stewart. Ionescu is on a tear.

Mercury about to lose their 3rd straight. Implementing Sabally/Copper/Bonner into a lineup with a ball dominant player in Alyssa Thomas is going to have a learning curve.

Honestly, I never really understood what Tibbets saw in the trio of Satou, Kah, and AT. Bonner is excellent playing off the ball and being an auxiliary scoring threat. But the other three all like to have the ball in their hands and make their own shots. Even when AT is distributing, I'm not sure Kah and Satou are the right finishers. My best guess is the Sun have a worse record with the three playing than even two of the three out.
