2025 WNBA Regular Season

Could Aces miss the playoffs?

Probably not. They are currently in 8th place, slightly ahead of the Mystics. They should improve, but 4th place may be their ceiling. They look nothing like the team that won 2 championships.

Seattle won a close one in Vegas, even though A'ja returned. Nneka had 25, Skylar had 24, Gabby had 18, and Wheeler had 17. Gabby had a career-high 12 rebounds, including some big ones late in the game. I voted for her as an All Star.
I didn't watch this entire game (doing so for the Valkyries-Fever caught up to me last night), but based on the first half:
  • By and large, Seattle shot well, which show they were getting to the areas and taking the shots they wanted. Also tells me that Las Vegas, which used disrupt matters on defense, didn't do a good job of it last night.
  • Seattle only played one sub of consequence and got only two points from her (Clark). That's really cuttin' it close to the bone.
  • Aaliyah Nye continues to have Hammon's trust and is paying it back.

Thus far, this is the best I've seen Gabby play over an extended period in the W. She, Nneka and Skylar are all playing at consistently high levels. (Given the lack of a bench, they're going to need to.)

Aces have one of the worst defenses in the league. Until that changes they aren’t gonna be a threat to make a run

I think Iriafen has struggled this month. And I would probably drop her to third in the rookie of the year voting atm.

This Dallas and Li Yueru experience might actually work out! Li needs minutes to improve, like a lot of players. Seattle just wasn't the right fit. Maybe Dallas could be that team where it all clicks together. I saw a lot of missed opportunities with the Wings Pick & Roll actions. Li was quick to her spots but her teammates were cooking with their shots, like Paige. Or just the timing was off. Overall, Dallas could be the space for Li to develop and get ready for her National Team.

Well they weren't good last year either. Missed the playoffs, which is fairly hard to accomplish in the W w/ 2/3 of the teams qualifying for post season.
They looked way better than this and were more competitive. Anyone who watches the games can see they are much worse this season

To me Tyler is in over his head and so is the front office. They have zero clue

Well, the highlight of the first half was watching Sami Whitcomb exuberantly jump after nailing her 5th three pointer of the half.
In the second, it was watching two rookies guard each other. Rookies who happen to be sisters. Kat (Mercury) and Maddy (Sky) guarded each other on a few sequences.

It's interesting. Maddy used to say that when they were learning the game Kat was an "inside to outside" player while she, Maddy, was the opposite. Kat has now changed her approach a bit...hitting two of the 17 Merc three-pointers. In the fourth quarter, Kat -- who is technically the Mercury center -- was bringing the ball up during extended garbage time, while being guarded by Hailey Van Lith. Now, that was a strange match-up.

To be fair they have been missing their starting PG for a number of games now (and unfortunately will be for the rest of the season). I think they certainly looked better w/ Sloot than without her. They really don't have anyone resembling a PG now among the starters, and Van Lith as a rookie isn't ready to take on the role.

Carter's scoring is missed, but she earned her way out. I can't say I really disagree w/ their decision to not bring her back. She's burned bridges w/ 3 franchises now. They can't all be wrong.

Every time it seems like she's about done, she resurfaces with another team and keeps being a valuable reserve who provides some sparks. She and Laksa have been a potent combo the last several games.

Not only missing their starting PG, but their back up PG (Jefferson). They start Cardoso, Reese, Nurse, Atkins, and Allen. None of those really are PG's altho I suppose Allen is the closest? Then they bring Banham and Van Lith off the bench, and I would argue neither of them are good PG's either.

I agree that Li might be someone who can grow to a real asset with Dallas (also, that, eventually, they might be better as a team when Geiselsoder returns and she and Paige learn to mesh together). Like really seems to have qualities (in addition to size) to build on, but one of the things she needs to develop is her play on offense when she receives the ball close to the basket: she frequently gets stripped and/or misses bunnies (though, if she gets fouled she's money in the bank).

Is Chicago tanking? Holy smokes. I mean, basketball is a simple game but watching Chicago play. I am like "Is basketball really that simple to play?"

I didn't think there was a definitive number 1 pick compared to Bueckers this year. Have a hard time thinking they're trying to, even though their record indicates otherwise.

Minnesota is running away from LA down the stretch. 25-11 in Q4 w/ a minute+ left. No Collier, no problem. LA is so disappointing so far this year.
Primary offensive charge led by Kayla McBride and Courtney Williams, who finished with 29 and 18, respectively. K-Mac went 5-7 from 3-pt. land and 6-6 from the FT line. Meanwhile, Maria Kliundikova, who many will remember as Maria Vadeeva, took Collier's place in the starting lineup and scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, with three steals and two blocks.

LA had her in camp this year. They really should've kept her, and let Mercedes Russell go. Russell has been providing them w/ almost nothing.
