Well...Plum debut w/ LA went pretty well. Maybe we're gonna find out she can score just as much or more as players like Loyd or Ogunbowale if she's as much of a featured player in the offense as they have been. An efficient 37 points to go along w/ 6 assists and 5 steals. Valks were hanging around but Sparks end up w/ a 17 point win.
Plum moves from championships in Vegas to scoring titles in Socal. Unfortunately the team around Plum is not built to win so while the Dawg may well challenge Wilson for the scoring title her championship days nay well be over.

6 minutes to tip in New York. Really looking forward to this game and how the new Aces roster functions.

I've really loaded up on Chelsea in fantasy so looking forward to seeing how she performs against the Liberty. On the other side wondering how Liberty defense is going to be functioning.

WNBA announcers predicting the game.

Consensus that the Liberty win at home.

GREAT PRE GAME!

Definitely true, but I kinda think Vegas' Championship run is behind them. We'll find out soon enough. Maybe if Gray can return to the player she was 2 or 3 years ago, but if not I think they'll be similar to last year. I can't believe how long they've gone with a completely inadequate front court rotation other than Wilson, and that is just as much of a problem this season.

All I got out of Sparks/Valkyries is that both teams look lottery bound. I hope that Rae Burrell will be okay.

The MVP discussion is going to be interesting to me because those who relentlessly vilified last year's favorite will be perfectly fine with this year's favorite going for the award.
Pheesa

It could be, but I'm interested in seeing how quickly Kitley adjusts. There has to be a reason why Vegas was willing to sign Parker-Tyus knowing she'd be unavailable this season due to pregnancy. Or at least that's how I'm looking at that free agency decision.

Hope you enjoyed that 4 for 13 performance. Really ruined NY's ring celebration.

Just 1 game, but Cloud w/ the Liberty could be a problem for the rest of the league. She was huge today.

Also just 1 game, but Loyd definitely did not find her role w/ the Aces today.

Stewie and Wilson are still the players we've become accustomed to seeing.

92-78 final Lib win. Game of runs. NY was up 17 just before half, LV nearly tied it during Q3, NY pulled away late in Q4.

Random observations from the Liberty - Aces game.

1). Cool to see the Liberty get a banner hung up at Barclays before the Nets did. :)

2). I get the celebration hangover from the Knicks making it to the conference finals, however, how is it possible that Spike Lee couldn't find something Liberty related to wear for today's game!

Bonner was a big addition for the Fever...but ya gotta get Hull minutes. She made an impact whenever she was on the floor. Ultimate hustle player, seems to always be in the right place.

Clark's first 3 assists were stolen by her teammates blowing easy layups.

.-.
Really pleased to see Stewart with an efficient 25 point season opener. She looked crisp coming off a knee procedure between unrivaled and training camp.
Hopefully, as Brondello said before the game, the Liberty manage her minutes effectively. Felt they had to have her on the court too much last season. The way the roster is constructed this year, it looks like they had it in mind.

Still not a fan of Sandy as a coach. Needs to get Marine more minutes especially when Sabrina is way off shooting.
Use the bench early on in the year. Don't wear everyone out halfway through the year. Especially with Eurocup this year.

I enjoyed both games this afternoon I'm looking forward to the evening contest.

The Aces struggled as a team defensively, a tribute person has to the much maligned Sandy Brondello's coaching particularly on defense.

In her 35 minutes I thought Gray looked good: three for five from beyond the arc, strong communication attempting to hold her teammates accountable although the lack of cohesion on the Aces defense was partially a factor in her five fouls.

After watching the second game today it sure looks like the Liberty, the Lynx with MVP Front Runner Collier, and the Fever are going to be at the top of the W.

Becky is going to try to have to figure out how to integrate the Notre Dame guards and develop some kind of defensive identity. Clearly the lack of offense from Stokes is going to be a challenge if she gets significant minutes.

I am.

Of the dozen idiotic decisions over the past 10 years in Phoenix, in the top three was letting Sandy go.

As a Phoenix Mercury fan I can attest to her skill set and status as an elite coach. The valley of the Sun has been cursed with coaches such as the million dollar man from South Dakota as well as the high school coach thanks Sandy was showing the door.

The entire roster of 12 played. 8 players double digit minutes, most minutes played 33 by Cloud. Stewie played 27.

RE: Pheesa

Her play
Against the worst defensive PF in the league (and a defense that you have maligned on here numerous times)? While A'ja had 31/16 against what you consider to be a top defense?

And perhaps you missed the 20/10/10 triple double from Caitlin today? If that continues (leading the league in triple doubles and coming close to averaging one), Phee won't sniff MVP this season.

Sure, Jan.

The Aces struggled defensively and while Brondello does play into that some, not having an actual post player other than A'ja to provide some semblance of paint resistance contributes to that. This is as much a personnel issue as it is schemes from a coach who hasn't won a COY award in ages.

I'm glad to see that the league has been decided after only one game! That saves me from having to watch the rest of the games.

Kiah Stokes has scored slightly as many points in her career as A'ja scored last season alone. It's just not going to happen. That horse is now dust. I just hope she figures something out for next season because I can't imagine that she'll have many offers from WNBA teams--especially if the new CBA increases the amount of $$ between rookie minimum and vet minimum. Nice girl, but she isn't a WNBA player and wouldn't look any better if she played for the Lynx, Liberty, or Fever.

Nobody is. Give her the current Sky or Mercury roster and she'd have them with 12-15 wins on the season. She almost lost her job after nearly blowing Game 5 of the Finals with a more talented roster.

The Fever started out strong and still look like they have tons of room for improvement. Clark with a triple double to start the season! Adding Natasha Howard was such a good move for remediating their defensive woes from last season. This team looks 100x better on defense and is taking their offense up another level with all the weapons. One thing that I think will be critical for their playoff run is that Kelsey Mitchell doesn't have to carry the offense when things get rough. I think she'll get more rest throughout the season and I think that'll help her keep her legs in the playoffs. Anyways I'm getting ahead of myself. This team has the chess pieces to win it all.

Dana Evans contributed as much (if not more), in 18 minutes, as Chelsea Gray did in 35. That's what you'd want from a player who can be 6th Woman of the Year, but that's not what you want from a starting PG who's supposed to be the best in the league at her position (well, she clearly isn't anymore, but you get it).

I'm sure I'm being dense here, but would you mind stating this another way? I read you as saying, "Those who vilified A'ja last year will be perfectly fine with her winning it this year." But, as I said, I think I'm missing something. (This happens to me all the time; just ask my kids.)

Sure--I'll clarify.

A'ja took a ton of heat for what opposing fans (and some members of a major media market) considered to be "chasing an MVP" last year. This year, because Phee is the favorite, those same fans seem to be okay with her "chasing an MVP".

It's a double standard to me, but fans will vilify who they want.

SN: I think it'll be interesting if the MVP race comes down to Caitlin versus Phee, especially considering that the former just had a triple double on national TV and more than held her own defensively (a huge knock on her last year). I, personally, don't believe that A'ja will drop off like many are predicting, so stay tuned.

Hey, it's only one game but sure like to see this respect/admiration & affinity between new teammates.
Yes, they'll run into roadblocks but the two seem to be in a good place. Now, if they can get Aaliyah Edwards and Shakira Austin back!

The rosters include...

The following schools...
UCONN.....16
Notre Dame....12
South Carolina...9
Baylor...6
Tenn....5
Texas...5
Maryland...5
Stanford....5
UCLA....5

The rest have less than 5.
The who's who of WBB....

Nneka, Smith, Samuelson, Hull, Brink, Carrington, Iriafen.
The last two played at Stanford, but transferred elsewhere
