Okay. Everybody has a hometown. Doesn't mean being there is the best possible job. If she's ambitious, eventually she'll want a better job than UNLV. The Mountain West is already not a great conference, and it's going to get weakened in '26 when the new Pac 12 (or Pac whatever) raids it. I think there's a very definitive ceiling on what she can accomplish there. She's pretty much already at that point.Fixed
Maybe she knows something we don't about UNLV's likelihood of accepting a bid to the (new) Pac-12? That, or maybe she's a real Homer?Okay. Everybody has a hometown. I think the Pac already put on a full court press and UNLV said no thanks. Mountain West must've really sweetened the pot for them to stay.Maybe she knows something we don't about UNLV's likelihood of accepting a bid to the (new) Pac-12? That, or maybe she's a real Homer?
John Canzano's substack has lately suggested that mating dance is not yet fully over, but my interest in following the intrigue closely waned once Stanford got shipped off to the All Coasts Conference.I think the Pac already put on a full court press and UNLV said no thanks. And here I thought the 0.27% for the men's bracket after round 1 was a wild stat. The women's side said "that's cute"![]()
Not naming any names, but I know one of them intimately.I saw something on social media that it was Vandy/Oregon game that wiped out most people in the women’s bracket.

Isn't this post about coaches on the hot seat?I saw something on social media that it was Vandy/Oregon game that wiped out most people in the women’s bracket.
That and maybe the Harvard -Michigan State game yesterday. Harvard seemed like the sexy underdog pick too.I saw something on social media that it was Vandy/Oregon game that wiped out most people in the women’s bracket.
Wow!!!!
Wonder if she heads to Atlanta with Smesko?
What is he hanging on for? Just digging a deeper hole for his program that whoever follows him will have to try to get out of.Joe Mckoewn says he will retire after 25-26 season
At least at Northwestern the school itself is part of the draw. Moreso than mostWhat is he hanging on for? Just digging a deeper hole for his program that whoever follows him will have to try to get out of.
Is that really a draw anymore? That was Stanford's thing for forever...until suddenly it wasn't.At least at Northwestern the school itself is part of the draw. Moreso than most
And with the portal ….
Please note: I didn't say he warranted his "victory tour" -- I wrote the administration has granted him a victory tour. To the contrary, I've been one of the folks urging him to take the high road and have a joint retirement party with Doug Bruno. Not sure I agree he warrants this “farewell tour”. Seems like a nice enough guy but has done NOTHING FOR 5 years.

I found a Northwestern press release noting his last contract ran through the end of this season: 2024-25. So a conscious decision was made to give him this last year. From most of our perspectives, this was not the way to go.

Thanks...points all taken and understood (FWIW, you're conversing with a 10+ year plus accredited coach who certainly knows it's not all w's and l's). From all accounts, Uncle Joe and N'Western have played ball and overseen their students the right way. I have a friend who attends multiple games per year and she likes the way the team conducts itself. We, me included, focus on wins and losses. But the AD and the school have additional concerns. Costs for one. But also integrity of the program, player treatment, etc. if he treats his players well and they all graduate, and are good community members, maybe the school can live with that for another year. Competing at that level is a 0-sum game; not every team can be above average in wins, and if you don’t have additional metrics ….
Also universities may be more conscious of expenses in this political environment, outside of FB and MCBB
