i am shocked that so many BYers seem so eager to place their bets on sirens from other teams rather than stick with huskies who are here right now and have given their all to uconn and have great, if as yet unfulfilled, promise. i'd rather have players who had uconn as their first choice than players who are phenoms from some other team who now see greener pastures here. if geno & co. decide one of those can help, i hope they get her. but i really am disgusted with 'fans' hankering for any other 'prize' they can imagine elbowing their way into the established gang of sisters. and i hope none of the sisters decide they'd benefit from dropping out.

that's my opinion of this thread.
Is that how you felt about Caitlin Chen, Lou Senechal and Dorka Juhasz? Transfers are sometimes a necessary part of building the strongest possible team............adding proven performers to strengthen perceived weaknesses is far different than losing and adding half of your team every year which seems to be happening more and more lately.....

please note that i said "if geno & co. decide one of those can help, i hope they get her." so, i know transfers can be a boon, but BYers are making it a trivial game ... she looks good, let's grab her, etc. there a dozens of players who look good but perhaps wouldn't complement the team for reasons BYers have no knowledge of ... i trust geno & co. and find it insulting for the uninformed to press agendas that may be stupid urrr, counterproductive.

I think some MIGHT be overlooking Allie. She had 5 effective guards ahead of her. She typically just got mop up time. She did score 17 in one game exhibiting a smooth stroke. She was a top 10 ranked recruit in HS. Maybe she didn't meet Geno's defensive requirements, maybe she isn't quick enough to guard point guards. Other possible unknown maybes as to why she didn't get more time with the regulars.

I am against pursing a guard in the portal. If given a chance, IMO, Allie takes a huge sophomore leap and gets minutes at either the one or the two because defense can be improved. She is too good a shooter to not give her an opportunity.

Yes, there is much to be gained by developing the players we already have. I am confident that will happen. Our experience of the past several years has shown that it does not hurt to have insurance against injury by having a full roster. Any additions need to complement the culture and style of play of the team, as we now have a winning formula. Gaudy statistics on another team, though relevant, may be less important than fit with the current team. I am confident the coaching staff will think about our current players, potential needs and decide if our roster needs additions.

Agree. And the last bit, I imagine Geno will introduce whoever it is to the current players and get their feedback, too.

It might have happened that Geno discussed adding Kaitlyn with Paige, since she was the senior leader with the most at stake, but I don't see that this year. I expect Geno will, with only advice from staff, scouts, advisors, and maybe past players, select one or two from the portal depending on final roster status.

I'm not exactly sure what your trying to say. But if you want to have a winning program you have to get some good players from the portal. That is adjusting to times ! You have to fill in the holes left by departing players. The existing players must prove themselves every day in practice if they want playing time. This is no longer High School.

sorry about that!

but the rest of your post is right on. i agree with it. so do you still not understand my post? i thought it made sense.

Looks like Serah Williams and Azzi and KK have started following each other. Hopefully more players will start following and some good news to come soon!
Everyone loves a parade (didn't hurt the men to convince their center transfer to commit last year). Hoping for a sighting on Sunday (and only partly for symmetry).

It might not change anything but with Q departing, that opens up the possibility at least of two portal additions. IMO a big and namely Williams is the clear objective for the first opening. If we miss on her another big like Okot might be priority 2, but if we get one high level big, Geno could then take a look at some guards or wings.

Personally I don't think we need to fill the spot just because we have a couple now. Any players we bring in should be difference makers or don't bother. Bringing in talent roughly equal to what we have can cause resentment, but a definite improvement should be pursued.

Williams and a couple of other bigs meet that criteria IMO, but on the perimeter I'm not sure anyone left would be a difference maker. rEgardless we now have an extra opening to also look at a perimeter player if there is a good fit.

Agreed, besides Williams and Okot, the only other obvious player to me would be Kneepkens. Who we now have room on the roster for. Not sure if we’re even on her radar or vice versa given her list of schools. There may also be another Lou type player that’s unknown to us. I think if our roster is healthy next season and the players make some progress in their development, we’ll be in good shape without any transfers in. We shall see.

Now that Q has entered the portal, Serah Williams would be my #1 pick with Gianna Kneepkens being my 1A pick. Might as well be greedy and wish big !

13 is big enough for Geno’s roster. Serah, sure. Why not? Same for Kneepkens. Neither one is essential, and the opportunity cost for the recruited players is high.

UConn is pretty high in the mix for Kayleigh Heckel (USC) according to Skim Mulkey’s discord which is usually pretty accurate.

I like Heckel quite a bit, but she seems redundant with Fisher coming in and they would overlap three seasons.
I agree. I really like her and like her spark but feel like between Fisher and KK we are set in what she could bring. If she was a great 3 PT shooter I would feel a lot better.

I heard UConn may be looking towards European players. Maybe one in the portal and one from oversees. Some top players oversees are also a year away from being drafted. I know it is harder to get European players.

The players that Uconn is looking at only have 1 or maybe 2 years of eligibility left so it would not effect the the high school kids being recruited.

Heckel makes a ton of sense to me, personally. She’s a pesky defender, outstanding floor general and has a really high ball-IQ. I can see why there’s interest (if there’s interest). She fits the mold of a UConn PG perfectly.

Sure her shooting could use some work, but Moriah wasn’t a great shooter her first year either. I say if there’s mutual interest, make it happen.

Insurance at the guard position is never a bad thing.

She would be coming in as a sophomore. If Geno is looking, and we don't know if he is, it would only be for another one year player like Kaitlyn, experienced enough to fit right in to fill a need and would not disrupt future rosters.

This portal situation is turning from bad to terrible really quickly!
Girls are declaring for the portal and a day or two later signing with another school!
How do you do all the interviews, campus visits, etc that quick?
Someone is contacting girls earlier so everything is SETUP before they enter the portal!
At least 8 to 10 of the most recent have happened that way!
