The one I haven't seen any comment from is Mir McLean, who went to Virgina and then Maryland. I'd be curious to hear her impressions of the various schools she's been to. I also can't help but notice a sad irony in Saylor's initial decision. Had she stayed just a little longer, she would have gotten lots of playing time because of all the injuries. I think she also has the skillset Geno would have found invaluable. This was a fateful decision for her, and the fates were not on her side. I suspect she's significantly impaired her prospects for a pro career with that decision.

I was talking about Dawn so you wouldn't think I was criticizing UConn.

I think we could reasonably chalk Saylor's issues to the unique peak COVID sitch. She should have stayed in HS but instead joined UConn when her senior HS season was cancelled, then didn't like UConn when she came in mid year, full covid protocols, almost no fans, and the playing time one would expect for a true HS senior who missed the whole pre-season and expected to have meaningful time with one of the most competitive programs in the nation. Eager to actually play ball, she transfers just in time for half the UConn starters ahead of her to go down with season ending injuries...

In retrospect, she simply made the wrong choices, but I can see why they seemed reasonable at the time.

ALL CAPS'd the VOL in volunteer as if she wasn't aware their name is Volunteers and so there was no pun there at all, or at least not the one she seemed to think she was dropping.

Also, wrong thread. This is for folks in the portal. The commitment thread is for folks who warped back out of it.

Amen. There's hope for El Alfy who will be a redshirt sophmore and has the size to be a real post player. But she HAS TO get MUCH better at the basics. Positioning. Boxing out. Tip ins. Layups. Hand strength. Not fouling. Free throws.

Patterson is injury plagued, and anything she gives you at this point is a bonus. Brady couldn't displace El Alfy as a starter despite the fact that she has one more year of experience and coaching.

The only weakness on this team was - and is - the post. If they get Serah Williams or some other similar senior transfer that is demonstrably better than El Alfy, grab her. It gives them one more year to develop someone internally.

He goes out of his way to make sure ALL his players, especially his 4 year players are afforded those standards.
That is why his players love him and come back often to see the current program! Look how many alumni were at this years Final Four! You don't see those numbers from other programs!

When we are talking numbers, it helps that we happen to have 12 NC teams worth of alumni! Add in that we have been in the final four pretty much every year of this century (19/24) and it sort of becomes a habit for everyone! TN is the only one close, and they haven't been to a FF in awhile so they aren't in the habit! SC is building in that direction.

In the age of the 'transfer portal' and the 'NIL' what UCONN did will never be repeated. That is the only real fact. The game we are loyal to, is no longer loyal to the fan base. It has become a 'follow the money' or better yet a 'show me the money' situation across all college athletics.

In my 45 years of being a Duke fan, this is the most crushing transfer of them all... Football, MBB, and WBB included. My favorite player on this team and one of my all time favorites. Absolutely gutted and disconsolate.

I am right there with you.

In her first season, Oluchi Okananawa was named 2024 ACC Sixth Player of the Year.
In her sophomore campaign, she was ACC Tournament MVP.

She developed from a top 30/40 recruit under Kara Lawson into a player who achieved the aforementioned awards.

I am just ... gutted.

Where are people "hearing" or "seeing" things? Is it public information or coming from people standing in the shadows?
For example in these posts, three different schools are in the mix. Hmm.
I've always wondered about these type of posts.

Every time I see that pairing I cringe. Will Coach Yo help develop her or just allow her to freelance?

The reason why I ask is because of the article from Sports Illustrated that outlined why she has gaps and can be erratic. Learning that she learned more off of And-1 style mix tapes, versus what we typically expect as a player learns the sport was an eye opener. I don't see Ole Miss being the place where they would help her improve in those areas.

I don't mind her going to Ole Miss because I think they'll keep her accountable but I don't think Ole Miss's style will jive that well with MiLaysia and she'll have similar frustrations.

I really hope she doesn't go to Tennessee or Oklahoma just because I think she'll get the attention she wants without being pushed to grow. Both of those systems will mask her issues. I kind of hope she goes to NC State, Louisville or Maryland. Those feel like good fits to me.
