I was talking about Dawn so you wouldn't think I was criticizing UConn. You assumed I was criticizing Dawn by implication. I'm not. I think loyalty is a remarkable feature of Dawn's program, too. The key element is that the kids are loyal even though neither of them promises playing time to anyone. It's all earned in practices and in game performance. This was my point throughout.
As it happens, I have seen a number of interviews with kids who left. There was an interesting one by Saylor Poffenbarger. Initially, her mom had declared that her daughter left seeking the better academics of U. Arkansas. But later Saylor admitted that she found Geno's system overly restrictive. I imagine this is a common theme among kids who depart. Others leave because they want more playing time. And there are some of these who still speak glowingly of their time at UConn, just as I'm sure there are for SC.
The one I haven't seen any comment from is Mir McLean, who went to Virgina and then Maryland. I'd be curious to hear her impressions of the various schools she's been to. I also can't help but notice a sad irony in Saylor's initial decision. Had she stayed just a little longer, she would have gotten lots of playing time because of all the injuries. I think she also has the skillset Geno would have found invaluable. This was a fateful decision for her, and the fates were not on her side. I suspect she's significantly impaired her prospects for a pro career with that decision.
She is now on a better team. With her 32% shooting percentage, a perfect fit.
To be fair, few are on Glo's level. She needs to stay in school and play basketball. She ain't no Glorilla
I think we could reasonably chalk Saylor's issues to the unique peak COVID sitch. She should have stayed in HS but instead joined UConn when her senior HS season was cancelled, then didn't like UConn when she came in mid year, full covid protocols, almost no fans, and the playing time one would expect for a true HS senior who missed the whole pre-season and expected to have meaningful time with one of the most competitive programs in the nation. Eager to actually play ball, she transfers just in time for half the UConn starters ahead of her to go down with season ending injuries...You assumed I was criticizing Dawn by implication. I'm not. Amen. There's hope for El Alfy who will be a redshirt sophmore and has the size to be a real post player. But she HAS TO get MUCH better at the basics. Positioning. Boxing out. Tip ins. Layups. Hand strength. Not fouling. Free throws.
- And in terms of Williams next season, we have not seen any of our post players really perform on a consistent basis. Not to mention as of right now at the 4 and 5 for next season we basically have El Alfy, Strong, and Brady for depth against top tier teams. Which I don’t know about you but that’s not a lot of depth to me.
Does that mean that 5’7” will become 5’8”?She is now on a better team.
When we are talking numbers, it helps that we happen to have 12 NC teams worth of alumni! Add in that we have been in the final four pretty much every year of this century (19/24) and it sort of becomes a habit for everyone! TN is the only one close, and they haven't been to a FF in awhile so they aren't in the habit! SC is building in that direction.tower1- - - That may be true of other coaches but Geno Auriemma goes by his own set of standards! Yes he doesn't PROMISE them a position, but he's loyal!
He goes out of his way to make sure ALL his players, especially his 4 year players are afforded those standards.
That is why his players love him and come back often to see the current program! Look how many alumni were at this years Final Four! You don't see those numbers from other programs!
In the age of the 'transfer portal' and the 'NIL' what UCONN did will never be repeated. That is the only real fact. The game we are loyal to, is no longer loyal to the fan base. It has become a 'follow the money' or better yet a 'show me the money' situation across all college athletics. When we are talking numbers, it helps that we happen to have 12 NC teams worth of alumni! Now it's official. Do not contact (FWIW)
So Miles leaves ND and Hidalgo to end up at TCU with Fulwiley?Let me make a wild guess but it’s TCU.
I'm a Mark Campbell fan so that would be the least painful transfer destination for me.Let me make a wild guess but it’s TCU.
If Campbell can resuscitate Van Lith's career, he can definitely find a way to work with Milaysia who doesn't seem like nearly as vexed a character and rather more talented in her best moments.I'm a Mark Campbell fan so that would be the least painful transfer destination for me.
Lol is TCU getting a reputation as the "rehab" destination for high-profile players wanting a fresh start?Let me make a wild guess but it’s TCU.
TCU coach settling in after portal season likeLet me make a wild guess but it’s TCU.

In my 45 years of being a Duke fan, this is the most crushing transfer of them all... Football, MBB, and WBB included. My favorite player on this team and one of my all time favorites. Absolutely gutted and disconsolate.
I‘m hearing Oklahoma for Fulwiley. I wonder how Aaliyah Chavez would feel about it.

I’ve been hearing a lot of Ole Miss for Fulwiley
Where are people "hearing" or "seeing" things? Is it public information or coming from people standing in the shadows?I was seeing Ole Miss or Southern Cal.
Every time I see that pairing I cringe. Will Coach Yo help develop her or just allow her to freelance?I’ve been hearing a lot of Ole Miss for Fulwiley
I don't mind her going to Ole Miss because I think they'll keep her accountable but I don't think Ole Miss's style will jive that well with MiLaysia and she'll have similar frustrations.Every time I see that pairing I cringe. Will Coach Yo help develop her or just allow her to freelance?
The reason why I ask is because of the article from Sports Illustrated that outlined why she has gaps and can be erratic. Learning that she learned more off of And-1 style mix tapes, versus what we typically expect as a player learns the sport was an eye opener. I don't see Ole Miss being the place where they would help her improve in those areas.
