I think more efficient versions of players that already existed on the roster probably do fit.

Latson is more or less the same type of player as Fulwiley and Zia Cooke, just probably better.
Similarly Kneepkens in a lot of ways appears to be an upgraded version of Tessa Johnson. Similar players and skill sets. I kind of hate seeing Tessa/Fulwiley get recruited over considering how important they've been to South Carolina's success the past 2 years, but it comes with the territory of SC having a championship or bust mentality.

I hope UConn has an assistant that is assigned to the portal. I hope we aren’t potentially missed out because our season ran 2-3 weeks longer than everyone else’s.
Strong concern for many ND fans over at The Bench...and we didn't have the extra week+ on the court you did!
No, I'm in agreement with you on the extra resources.

Isn't that what development is all about? Geesh, even the announcement that Kneepkens is coming would be a dissuading to a Tessa Johnson, who strikes me as being a tremendous individual and team-oriented player.

Looking back, Dawn has never been shy about loading up on posts (I was shocked Dauda was taken out of the back storage room) and, yes, she has brought in a Pao Pao. If Staley has always operated on this mindset, maybe it just wasn't as apparent to me. Or has she shifted to stay in line with a more "win, win, win" mentality?

BTW, of those four schools listed, I see the Lynn Roberts match most in Oklahoma, particularly if Payton Verhulst's eligibility is up. Kneepkens would be a natural there.

I need to look up the post game press conference but I recall the coach saying Verhulst was coming back. Was a little surprised when I heard it.

I am seeing reports that Londynn Jones and Janiah Barker are in the portal.
I think this makes sense. I don't love it for Jones but I think if she wants to start and have a shot leading a team playing big minutes it makes sense. Janiah Barker had W aspirations. I thought she wanted to enter the draft. But she sacrificed a lot came off the bench. She's one of those super talented players that I feel hasn't found the right fit to maximize her potential. I don't even know where that would be. I actually think UCLA's departures make sense and if they are healthy even as currently constituted are really a top 4 team. Betts, Betts, Jaquez, Rice, CLW, Gardener, Dugalic is still a super strong top 7.

Time to ask what’s going on at UCLA

I think UCLA has much the same problem as crosstown rival USC. Both schools were set up this year to run their offense through 1 player. When you have a bunch of 5-star players on your roster, I don’t think it’s much fun for them to be standing around watching one player dominate the game.

Here's where I'm super confused. Everyone said Aarinsalo lost her starting spot when Rice came back from injury, but it's not true: she lost it to Jones, once it was clear the pecking order was Rice > Jones > Aarsinalo. For a while, Rice & Aarnisalo were starting together and Jones was subbing in for either of them.

So I could see Aarnisalo desiring more playing time because, TBH, I think she's a better true point guard than either Rice, who is more of a combo guard, or Jones, who is basically a shooting guard that is tinkerbell sized.

But WTF is Jones leaving? She started on a national championship caliber team, and the whole class behind her just left. Where could she possibly get a better gig than at UCLA?

As for Barker, I'll be honest: she was one of the rawest, undisciplined juniors I've seen. Almost every time she came in, within a minute or two she'd commit a silly foul, cause a turnover, or take a bad shot. She has a ton of talent, for sure, but boy did she not play with discipline. So I guess I also didn't feel like I was seeing her consistently do on the court what she needed to do to merit being in the starter conversation, especially when even Timea Gardiner was coming off the bench. (And backing this up with stats, Barker had the most turnovers per 40 mins on the team, was 7th in eFG%, and by far the highest fouls per 40 minutes among anyone with meaningful playing time.)

This situation just feels like a microcosm of the portal era. UCLA gets a top 5 class. They then bring in two really big name transfers. The freshman sit in favor of the transfers, and all leave. Then the big name transfer leaves, maybe because she wants more PT than being a role player on a final four team. I dont envy the balancing act these coaches have to handle. Obviously kids leave for a myriad of reasons, so this is just a general statement using ucla as an example.

Charlisse Legend Walking. Lol. That's y I think Jones left. I agree out of loyalty there were reasons to stay and undoubtedly she'd be big in the rotation regardless. But I just think CLW is better than Jones. May have already shown it a bit going up and down in practice. Jones could be a savage and go to USC. Lol.
