How do we know that Jana won’t develop into a decent offensive player? This was only her 1st year of playing against competition in the US. I thought she showed some skills that could be developed further.Optimally, I would prefer a post who is also a threat to score not just give fouls.
“Will be interesting”….agree….they certainly need someone who can make shots from the perimeter….will see how the addition works outLatson to SC will be interesting. Dawn has never had a “high volume” scorer before to the best of my knowledge. Someone will have to make an adjustment.
If you could have had (1) all of your assistants focused on winning the natty, or (2) assigned part of your staff to the portal…?I hope UConn has an assistant that is assigned to the portal. I hope we aren’t potentially missed out because our season ran 2-3 weeks longer than everyone else’s.
It’s going to be a really tough to re-cover from thisI'm sure they'll find some competent acquisitions from the portal. Ivey managed to recover from the dumpster fire she inherited, I'm sure she'll recover from this one.
But in the meantime, just a quick recap of recent events:
So, ex-coach, how are you feeling about this:
- Notre Dame goes from title favorite to imploding down the stretch and whimpering out in the Sweet 16.
- Most of the roster runs for the hills after said defeat.
- UConn wins its 12th national title in dominant fashion.
- Miles transfers to a male-coached team.
mm seems to have covered itThis might have something to do with it. From an article March 21, 2025:
Hannah Hidalgo, a women’s basketball star at Notre Dame who has lead the team in points, allegedly expressed some possible anti-gay homophobia by sharing a video expressing that same-sex marriage is a “sin.”
In fairness, the "incident occurred over the summer last year (July 2024). When asked about it on a podcast in January 2025, Muffet McGraw had this to say:
“I thought it was a really poor choice on her part,” said McGraw when asked about Hidalgo’s social media post. “First, believing that, I think is a poor choice. And then saying it, as you said, on a stage where women’s basketball there are a number of gay players out there.”
McGraw continued, talking about how it impacts the locker room, saying “I thought that it was almost insulting to her teammates, to everybody in the game of basketball. I was really disappointed that it came out that way. I was happy that she deleted it, but the damage I think was done before she deleted it.”
“Accountability for me was like, that was the number one thing in having a championship team. Honesty, trust and accountability. It’s hard to trust when you have somebody that believes that what you believe is wrong.”
Neither Hidalgo nor her teammates have mentioned any sort of accountability within the Notre Dame locker room, now six months after the post.
My point about all this - the team made it thru the season. It ended with a whimper rather than a bang. But if, as Muffet said, the damage was already done, it's not surprising a bunch of players left. Why didn't they leave last summer? Good question - maybe because the portal was closed and they likely would have had to sit out a year?
At any rate, not trying to delve into any arguments on the board, but her sharing that kind of post may not have sat well, and who knows what went on behind the scenes or in the locker room that we didn't see, but if you want to point to one person and the incidents surrounding her, that well could be the reason for the exodus...
south carolina had everything this year“Will be interesting”….agree….they certainly need someone who can make shots from the perimeter….will see how the addition works out![]()
feelin good!Whoa Howell to Washington. How ya feelin @nwhoopfan ??
Even if it means your favorite coach lasts longer?feelin good!
Also: Creighton and South Dakota State and the whole of theWell, mid-majors, Duke, Stanford, UConn, and Notre Dame? Feels like we're all still chugging along with top recruiting classes lately, and even Mulkey got in on it this season.
Bottom line I want the team to succeed. If she can do that, then I'm happy. Last year was a step forward. Clearly her tenure has been better than Wynn's was.Even if it means your favorite coach lasts longer?![]()
I'll be very interested to see how Dawn handles it from a personnel management perspective. She's been so adept at getting everyone on her teams to buy into the team-first concept, but if you're a player of Tessa Johnson's or Milaysia Fulwiley's caliber, how would you feel about going into your junior year knowing that Ta'niya and Raven are likely still starting ahead of you? The answer could easily be that they're okay with it because that's what they signed up for, in which case, I'll be even more impressed than I already am by the culture Dawn has built at SC.south carolina had everything this year
except a go to player who could create their
own shot
safe to say they do now
potential game changer
Depends on who they get to play the other guard.I think there’s a falloff from Van Lith to Miles.
With respect, the concept of no one playing big minutes at SCar is fairly new and I'm not sure it was intentional so much as how player development and rosters ended up working out.I'll be very interested to see how Dawn handles it from a personnel management perspective. I like your optimism about KK, but to make up for the loss of Paige, the UConn PG for next year will have to be a larger, stronger, version of Kaitlyn who had a high BB IQ and was a decent outside shooter. Big shoes to fill here, especially if Geno wishes to keep Azzi at the 2.Kneepkens is from up in the iron range out of Duluth and 2 years younger than Paige, who was from Hopkins in the Minneapolis suburbs. I doubt that they know each other. As far as pg goes, I’m going to suggest that KK will not only assume that role full time, but she will dramatically improve her shooting so that opponents can not play off her, and she will excel as a distributor, defender and penetrator.
If she is from the Iron Range of Minnesota then Storrs will feel like Miami to her in January.By Boneyard, are you referring to the entire board, including both the UConn and General boards?
This is the Transfer Portal on the General Board, which is intended for and encompasses fans of many colleges.
As such, yes, there are a number of folks who know of and expressed interest in Kneepkens, including this Irish fan who watched she and her Ute teammates beat the Irish in the Cayman Islands.
She is, indeed, from northern Minnesota and maybe, just maybe, Paige might've known her via some local/regional AAU gigs. But she's very much an Iron-Range citizen.
Also agree with @oldude , that she'd be a great addition to the Huskies next year...as she would to any team that could use another sharpshooter.
Still no Cardosa or Boston. Lots of shooters, no rebounders. no height in the paint.south carolina had everything this year

I don’t yhink do. In his second year, he hasn’t had much to sell to high schoolers to nowCampbell appears to be a young coach who is going to live and die by the transfer portal. That’s a little like walking a tightrope without a net.
feelin good!
I could never see a scenario where Tessa Johnson would leave SC. However, she has been my favorite player not in a UConn uniform, and her game and size fit UConn like a glove if she ever decided to enter the portal.I'll be very interested to see how Dawn handles it from a personnel management perspective. At this rate ND won't make the tournament! Please let ND and TCU meet in next years tournament.
Maybe dust them off, and wait and see if they are deserving a spot on the shelf.Should I put my Washington hats back on the shelf,...or leave them in the closet and under the bed?
