2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

I hope Stewart hits the weight room hard. His lack of strength is a big liability for him on defense.

Ball, Stewart and Reed are the three I wanted back. Everyone else can be replaced.
Yup, those three, the three stud freshmen, and then a big starting PG from the portal and a 3/4 that can either shoot or defend at a high level to play 15-20 mins off the bench and we’ll be in business. Won’t speculate on Mahaney, but if he’s fine fighting Adams for the backup guard minutes I’m happy to have him back. Really think he was finally coming into his own towards the end of the year.

Portal PG
Ball
Mullins
Stewart
Reed

Mahaney
Adams
Portal F
Reibe

Another Portal G?
Furphy
Ross
Singare

And if we want to get more from the portal I’m not going to say no, depth is king. Realistically though, provided the freshmen are the real deal, I’d go to war with the above.

Stew improved to not be a total liability by the end. But for the first 25-30 games he was really bad save the first Dixon game. And saying one of our best is the whole point of why we need a major infusion of athletes on this team.
I think he will improve more. There was a big reason why Ross wasnt seeing much playjng time at the end of the year even for D. He was keeping even smaller players in front of him but I agree that we need more good defenders.

I’m glad. I believe in Stewart’s talent. I think he needs to be used better on offense…but he needs to step up his defense

He did step it up at the end of the year and was the main reason he was playing. Didn't you notice Ross not playing much even on D. I believe he will continue to improve there going into next year as he has the physical ability. Just worried on his offense a little. He needs ot be a little ore assertive and also use the dribble to create.

Malachi Smith is the first PG reported interest I'm not entirely on board with. No idea if the interest is real though, but I'd hope we could do better

Reeks of an agent trying to drum up offers. Considering how few we've met with I doubt he's one of 'em.
It's the scam Calapari perfected at UMass. It worked perfectly for him:

A job would come open at a high profile school and within hours the rumors were initiated about Cal being contacted about the job and within the next 24 hours Cal's agent would use carefully chosen words such as, "Coach Calapari is focused on building UMass into a perennial championship contender and will not be interviewing for this job", as his usual response.

Doesn't say he was contacted, but implies he was approached but he's so devoted to his team he won't even accept an interview.

I could see us hitting up smith as a depth piece, he can transfer up to a losing team if he wants, but playing near 20 minutes off the bench for a local power might be intriguing.

I saw that too and I agree.

Very good pass-first mid-major point guard, but not a guy I’d want UConn to recruit.

Yeah, he’s just a better overall player than Ross..and bigger.

Stewart has the ability to score off the dribble, to post up. He’s also a good passer. But this season the ball was stuck in Hass’s hands for way too long for most of the shot clock…the ball was also stuck in our center’s hands at the top of the key, not being guarded, only to have to get hass the ball back with a handoff. If stewart was in the game he was usually camped out in the corner.
