2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Now imagine the debates Patriots fans are having about Will Campbell’s arm length if you think the point guard height discussion is exhausting.

Auburn's starting guards are 6-1 and 6-3
Florida's starting guards are 6-2 and 6-2
Houstons' starting guards are 6-1 and 6-4.

Bigger is better and I'm glad we got Silas, but cmon man. There's no way we'd turn down a Pettiford, a Clayton or a Cryer.
Clayton 6’3 Martin is 6’2 but look how hes built like a tank
Pettiford 6’1 is good on offense but gets exposed on defense by bigger guard
Cryer 6’1 same thing & Houston system is perfect for him
Again you will have those 1 offs no doubt but even Hurley knows a bigger guard is where he would have the most success

What do you guys think at this stage for completing the team build roster?

PF/C Bidunga, Folgueira
Guard. ??

We really need that backup PG even if he is a little undersized. We can't go into the year relying on Adams as the backup PG. Of all our freshmen he is the least ready and needs to hit the weights hard.
There are a ton of quality mid-major PGs still in the portal. I think we will get a real good one that fits our system who is willing to be a 6th/7th man on a blue blood championship contender

Yea alot guys entering the portal thinking they are getting paid and starting. But spots and money are filling up. But plenty of quality bench talent will be available as guys will have to settle with reality. Just have to be smart , diligent, and lucky lol

Stewart's D did improve by the end of year and he was becoming our defensive stopper instead of Ross at the end of the year. His defensive metrics showed the improvement.
He did a great job on Dixon from Villanova.

And he did a great job in the Big East Tournament especially against Poplar and in the NCAA tournament too. He definitely improved and the metrics showed that.

What?

It doesn't matter one iota what they are listed at

We are talking about realities here
You can put down your shovel at any time.

EDIT: I've enjoyed that you chose not to do so.
Of course that means bearfoot ... I don't even know how to respond to that
I believe you as to the latter, and I don't know how to respond to the former, but I like it.

I hope I get taken by surprise by your participation in a future thread. This has been fun. Let's all get up and dance.

Does everyone here agree that we need another solid point guard? And if Alex returns that’s it?

Definitely a PG and whether Alex returns or not, I'd like an athletic 4/5 type. We complained all year about not being athletic enough, and while we upgraded with Silas, we're still, for the most part, a slow and unathletic roster.

Stew's "upgrade" is meaningless unless he uses his athleticism. He looked slow defensively all year (minus the Dixon and Poplar game that I know you are about to cite) and incredibly passive more often than not on the other end. It's a make-or-break year for him.
He was good at end of the year in all games. People need to re-watch that. Like I have mentioned before there was a reason he was our main player coming in and not Ross for defensive help at the end of the year. He will have to continue this defensive intensity into next year or he will sit for Mullins. Hurely is big on players proving themselves on Defensive side of the ball to get more time espcially is not scoring a lot. Not saying Stewart can’t improve on the offensive side of the ball too. He has to use the dribble more and create off the bounce. I do expect great things from Stewart next year.

We have 3 five stars coming in. None is a point guard. Maybe our backup forward is there for 15-18 Minutes a game. Gotta have another point guard the way I see it. If people are talking needing a 5 then there’s not much confidence he can be in a Clingan role in 2023?

Feel like we got caught with our pants down this year thinking we had enough depth at the PG. We did not. While Reibe is a big-time recruit, we really have no idea if he's going to be ready physically to play 10-15 minutes a game backing up Tarris. I'd much rather, if possible, have another 5 there in case Reibe is just not ready.

Perhaps I'm missing something here but IIRC, Adam's is a McD AA. A few here are projecting him to have less court time next tear than Nowell had this past season.

Probably based on reports from McD's game and other ramblings .

We certainly define athletic ability very differently. For me, movement on the floor, agility, that type of thing is paramount, over leaping ability.
I think he is quicker than McNeeley for sure. McNeeley used his strength and his dribbling to get to the rim. Where Stewart should have a big advantage is on the defensive side of the ball. McNeeley got beat off the dribble most of the season while Stewart improved there as the season went on and he knew that was his chance to get more minutes on the floor. I'm not saying he is going to be a better offensive player than McNeeley but I feel he is an upgrade athletically.

I know it's risky to think a freshman (other than someone like Castle) could be the back up PG, but I thought Adams thinks he's coming here as a PG and Furphy plays that role for Australia's FIBA national team.

What’s difficult for us fans is that we have this talent coming in, don’t get to see it against BE level players and first thing you know is they are in the portal because they wanted more PT. We need a Yarder to give us eyes on daily practice reports.
