2025 MLB Playoffs Thread

Agree. Big Dumper looked safe to me.
He was - was Dan Wilson asleep? If ever to use a challenge it’s at a play at the plate, you get a run and save an out. Killed a potential big inning. What are you saving it for?

Probably one of those plays where if he was called safe initially safe would be confirmed. But it looked to me like Cal's lead foot was above the plate when tag was made, albeit a difference of microseconds.

Watched it a few times and when the catchers mitt made contact with the Cal it looked like the heel was already in contact with the plate. You at least take the chance there. No point saving it as unlikely to be a bigger moment to use it.

That was amazing to see as it was happening. OF ump got it right, but whomever was on 2nd for Dodgers had no clue what was going on. And it's not just that it was a rare 8-6-2 double play, it's that 2 got two putouts at different bases.

Doubt we'll ever see that dp again.

Turang could've taken one for the team there and tied the game. He didn't have to try that hard to get out of the way...

Have to say, easy to second guess Pat Murphy tonight for using Uribe and staying with him. Betts was his 5th batter (including the IW to Ohtani). Unfortunately, there are two guys in the Milwaukee pen who have virtually no MLB experience, let alone playoff experience. But if you took those guys over Nick Mears and someone else, you must think they're pretty decent. So use 'em.

So tough - he really could have, but you have literally a millisecond to make that decision. To K swinging at a ball with the bases loaded made it even worse. It felt like Milwaukee had them where they wanted and they bailed them out.

I’m very surprised that Toronto lost two at home especially after what they did to the Yankees in Toronto.
Toronto is a bit overrated (especially after losing Bichette), and the Yankees were worse than we all thought. A depleted Sox team beat up on Toronto in a crucial series at the end of the season in Toronto. The only reason the Yankees took 2 of 3 against the Sox was the Sox was completely depleted (lost their #2 starter) & they played all 3 in NY. Seattle is the best team in the AL.

I still think Milwaukee beats an overrated LA team, even though they choked away last night's game.

Someone will win their 1st World Series!

Lolz. The Yankees didn't have like half their pitching staff.

Who? Cole? He was out all season so I don't think you can count that. They were in much better shape than the Sox who had to start a rookie with 5 games under his belt in game 3. I'm a Sox fan and I think both teams weren't very good. Yankees slugged their way all season but if you watched them play they lacked fundamentals and played stupid baseball a lot. The Sox were a dumb team also but had less talent.

Cole, Schmidt, Loaisaga, Cousins. Gil came back in August after missing the first four months of the season and hasn't looked like the same pitcher.

I agree both teams aren't very good, Yankees were a little better.

None of whom are as good as Fried, Rodon, or even Schlittler it seems.
I think a healthy Cole and Gil are better than Rodon and Schlittler is a rookie who you didn't even know existed two weeks ago. The Red Sox fan above is complaining the Red Sox had to start a rookie pitcher. Loaisiga and Cousins were very important in the bullpen.

I’m just reading the thread now. It would be great if we never see that DP again because there should be no chance of it happening. baserunning fundamentals are often pathetic in MLB. It drives me crazy.

Man on third, less than two outs. A deep enough ball to the outfield where there will be no play at the plate. You tag at third. It doesn’t matter if it looks like it has no chance to be caught. Stay on the bag! When the ball hits the ground for a hit or is caught you can then waltz home. And yes, a runner can leave the bag the moment it touches the glove. He is safe even if the ball is bobbled and then secured a split second later. The runner mostly and certainly the base coach at third have to take the blame for not scoring on that Muncy drive.

Mad Max returned last night for the Jays. I don’t really care who wins the series but I want it to be competitive.

Looks like Dodgers will be back in WS thanks to their starting pitching. I believe Brewers’ batting average is around .120

LAD SPs have given up 2 runs in 23 innings. The BP has only had to throw 4 innings in 3 games.

No one is beating them, perfectly designed for the post season. At this point they are playing chess to the rest of MLB.

They’ll win the WS 4-2 whomever they play.

Shades of 1988.

Brewers were 6-0 vs Dodgers in regular season. Back in '88, the Mets were 11-1 vs Dodgers in regular season and considered a shoo-in for the WS. Mets fans know what happened that October.

LAD is basically like an NBA team, slow play the reg season, rest up the players that matter and save it all for the post season. They are the anti-Yankees as a team that plays the reg season good enough, then brings in the cavalry with post season profiles once the playoffs kick in. They've figured it out.

IMO, Toronto has a better chance of beating LA with the way they can hit but it won’t be easy.

Mookie made a really nice play in the ninth last night to throw out runner. Not bad for a converted second baseman/rightfielder.

The Dodgers are cheating the sport, of course it's not technically cheating because it's allowed. The commissioner and the CBA are a joke. I don't blame them for doing it because they're allowed to but it makes a mockery of the sport and any sort of fairness, they have well over $1 billion in deferred contracts.

It's just a really bad time throughout college and pro sports. We need leadership and guardrails so badly.

Max Scherzer is one of the all-time badarses in baseball. I'll be sad when he hangs them up, he's everything I still love about baseball and sports. There's hardly any athletes today I can think of who seem like they're willing to kill for it, Max is one of them.

Hence the beauty of the NFL and why it remains the most popular sports. Take a look at this year, parity galore.

It is the most perfectly designed sport for many, many reasons.
