2025 Inbound Portal Options (December 9th - 28th 2024 & April 16th - 25th 2025 Cycle)

I was familiar with him, with my son playing 4 years under his coaching guidance. There are a number of things that make a coach special. Society makes winning number 1. Of course, that is most important. But, But there are a number of other things that are equally as important as winning for those who play the game. When an athlete leaves an athletic program, any sport, they should be better prepared to take on the blows that will occur during their lifetime. The old saying, ¨not how many times you get knocked down, how many times you get up¨! Coach P made his athletes better in the game of life. I doubt if that is important in today´s world, but as we see athletes leave a team after 1 year for the portal to make $$$$, anyone who grew up in the days when loyalty to the team, be it college or pro, long for the old days.
Coach Mora is a throw back to the days when being a better human being for having played the sport means allot. While money rules, trying make that the most important thing in life when ¨the going gets tough¨. This will make little sense to most on the boneyard, but it sure makes sense to my son and those who played for Coach P.
1st glad your son had a positive experience with him. I can assure you that not every player that played for him at UConn had the exact same experience. That is true of every coach for sure.

Largest crowd ever at the Rent, 43,000 or so. Extra bleachers were erected in the west end zone under the scoreboard.
i noticed our content team (whoever at uconn is designing the social media posts) still uses the aerial shots from that game, in the content created for announcing our new commits.... in 2024.

sad

When is the last time 43,000 showed up at the Rent....I wonder if they won that game who would have coached the rest of the season?????? ONTO the Fenway Bowl...Go Huskies...I bleed BLUE to death....My prediction is NC 31...UConn 24...I so hope I am wrong...

Joe Moorehead was the OC and had the fire to keep our program going when Edsall bolted but Hathaway went with Paul P. Paul P demoted Moorehead to QB coach and put Deleone as OC. We are still trying to recover. We had talent that was better than 5-7 when PP took over.

Looking back, neither one was the right decision.

Going after a bigger name coach, with the momentum we had and the NFL prospects we had, would have increased our investment. Instead, we went for the safe guy from CT...

Rick Leach was available. He was a logical choice but Hathaway felt he was too toxic at that moment...

There were other options available at the time. I wanted i think somebody who eventually became the Texas coach. The Pasqualoni hire was just not understanding the football world and I hated it at the time.

It was at UConn in 2013. Packed stadium. On 4th and 29, they came up 1 yard short for a first down deep in Michigan territory. Great game. P was a great coach, even though he gets beat up on the boneyard...
It may have been true at other places. Not here. If your son had four years of P, it didn't happen here, nice for your personal experience. That Michigan game was one the most disappointing losses I have witnessed. The most storied program to come play here and they gifted the game to us only we managed to say no thank you. He also had the team totally unprepared for the Towson game... He wasted the most football talent than any UConn football coach probably in program history.

I recall them thinking it was super important to blow smoke up the butts of the HS coaches in CT.

It was an embarrassment at the time (and contributed to my board name along with PP successor). I may even have been suspended for the Board for repeatedly ripping the hire. First domino that turned the program into a laughingstock, but if you watched how they were coached you could see a team stuck in the 80s

We were 0-2 going into the Michigan game at the Rent and it was to this day the most intense game I have been to at home. With the extra seats it was a glimpse of what it would be like in a power conference.

Can we get back to inbound talent, please

Portal thought: Would it be better if portal was opened after the bowl season is over. That way teams would retain most of the players that got them bowl eligible. The fans who support the team deserve to see the team at full strength. In addition, if a player enters the portal, a percentage of his $$$$ should go to the players who stayed with their team. They contributed to the players being able to upgrade to a better program. A RB is depended on his OL to give him the openings to run through.....Just a thought. One other things. Should those who leave early pay the university for their scholarship? Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday....

The portal schedule takes into consideration the academic calendar. After bowl season would be way late preventing most players from being at spring practice.
Players still opt out of the bowl even if they aren't portalling. Many because of the draft.
Players are signing individual NIL deals with NIL collectives. Not the school. Would you care if it was an undergrad vs a graduate student? What about Ivy League players that grad transfer?
What do you mean leave early? Do you know that athletic scholarships are given out on a year to year basis? Also, if an athlete leaves the school in December after the season is over, that means the athlete is foregoing their scholarship. Why would they have to pay it back? That makes no sense.

Transfers want to enter January Semester. If you wait, probably not possible.

The only way to control when the portal opens is to have a collective bargaining agreement with the players. Otherwise NCAA will lose the case due to Antitrust reasons. The split of revenue sharing next year will be interesting. Football drives most of the revenue base for the P4 schools but the federal government has declared that revenue sharing needs to be split equitably between men and women sports due to Title IX.
