2025 Inbound Portal Options (December 9th - 28th 2024 & April 16th - 25th 2025 Cycle)

No egg mate, your heart was in the right place. Just means we can't go by whatever they post since it can change on a dime.

Yeah it sucks, but I mean if he can go to a big name school and put up numbers then he made the right choice both for his present and future as he'll get more exposure. Just the state of UConn right now.

Take your old (UConn) school tie, cut it into small shreds, toss it into the wind, and hope, just hope, that a small piece lands on a portal prospect. The “sheepskin” for many portal transfers means squat.

I am a dyed-in-the-wool capitalist, but let’s dispense with the charade of referring to most football/basketball D1 players as “student-athletes”. Free-agent semi-pros is more accurate.

And for those who the issue is G5 limited and that we need a conference, a bunch of high profile P4 starters are in the portal. It’s a systemic problem independent of conference or level.

Boston College - 12 players
Alabama - 16 players
USC - 19 players
Florida St - 20+ players
UConn - 15 players

Something has to change.

Until it changes I hope we use it to our advantage in every possible way.

Be careful with that UConn number. Out of those 15, one wasn't on the UConn roster last year so I'm not sure why he is on the list, one was injured and didn't play last year, one was honored on Senior Day so it's kind of a surprise he is in the portal, and 7 are walk-ons. Walk-ons used to fade away each year, but now they enter the portal to advertise that they are available.

Quite frankly, I expect bigger portal numbers from the SEC and B1G. There is a higher concentration of 4- and 5- star kids sitting the bench. And they aren't used to that. They want theirs...

True but many of these P4 kids end up at other P4 schools. The G5 schools are losing their main contributers to the P4 and it's really hurting programs unless they can hit on the portal year in and year out. The P4 schools have a better crop to choose from when replacing kids who leave. Or more likely, the kids leaving are because the school is bringing in a better player to replace them.

Screw it. They knew what program they were going to. It is a totally easy fix. The whole idea was to not “punish” kids by making them sit a year when a coach could leave for more money right away. What they could do is modify the old rule to give a player a free transfer if the coach that recruited leaves for any reason. Maybe hardship exceptions but that used to be administered a bit arbitrarily. If a UConn player doesn’t like the NIL deal. tough. A UConn is now in the situation of losing kids as soon as they think they can do better NIL elsewhere because they had a good.year. So a UConn might get a transfer up from a “lower” program who either does well enough to help for a year then leave and might have to fill in again the next year, or hope that the unhappy kid from P4 is gold. Which hasn’t happened much at skill positions. That might work against a weak schedule.

BCU just got the backup 4 star QB from Alabama. He picked them over UNC and Notre Dame. The rich get richer.

Top schools have logjams at QB as they bring in top recruits each year so it makes sense to go after the 3rd/4th string QB at a a school like Alabama and see if you can develop them. Plus, O'Brien recruited him at Alabama so there was a relationship. I think BC should also pursue a proven college QB as they are available like Syracuse did with McCord last year.
