Not only do they have the two best teams play against each other on the first day of the tourney, they have them playing in the afternoon.
And dont get me started on how they limit the attendance by not playing at XL every year.

I wouldn’t mind alternating with Bridgeport either. Total Mortgage, or whatever it’s now called can fit sizable crowds for a growing tournament. 3k arenas, even state of the art and super nice ones, just don’t cut it.

Sacred Heart is the host. Of course they are playing the late game. And if this isn’t going to be bogus, they need to play a “round robin” type of first round. I assume we’ll play Yale next year.

Last years attendance at the XL for the Quinnipiac/UConn game was 6429. Might have done a tad better at the XL Center this year. That is if it was the 7:00 game. Some people seem averse to making money.

XL Center is UConn territory. No wonder QU, SHU and Yale don’t relish playing in “our” home environment. Furthermore, why does UConn play only 12 of 16 home games on campus, four at XL? Expenses at XL are brutal. We are not even close to the attendance numbers in hockey to turn a profit there.

We aren’t the Beanpot. Not yet, maybe not ever. Campus rotation may be necessary to keep QU and Yale in the fold. Without both of them CT Ice does not survive. SHU doesn’t have their hockey cache. They are fourth in the pecking order.

I think the tournament is showing positive signs. This year will be an interesting test. It won’t be UConn-Q final. SHU does bring a pretty good fan base though.

Cav grew up on the Beanpot and has that mindset. I think SHU and Q both like the idea. And would go for a neutral site if it worked. The wild card I think is Yale. They really never completely bought in when this was proposed earlier. I think the thing that comes into play First and foremost is the Ivy game limit. They prefer not to play QU, a fellow ECAC team in one of their limited non-conference games. It’s different for Harvard. They play HEA teams in the Beanpot that they would likely play anyway. I don’t know if there might be some way to make the QU game count as a league game for both teams if Yale faced them. Maybe when they play in the first round you could do it.

The other thing that enters into the equation is that 3 of the 4 teams have new arenas so rotating home games gave each a potential chance to show them off. UConn elected not to do that because Cav wants this to be an annual event and he has the strongest interest in that outcome. I actually thought last years event tried to be pretty neutral unlike the one at Q which was 100% a QU home game and treated that way.

I think the beer garden comes with open (beer) bar. They also have a VIP Pavillion that was around $250 but comes with a buffet that includes prime rib . . .

I'll be there on Saturday. Can't make it Friday because of work and the 4 pm start time. Since I didn't jump on buying a ticket when they first were being sold, I had to buy my ticket through Quinnipiac so technically I'm in the Quinnipiac section. At lest I'm in the door and there will be one less QU fan at the game. Now I don't know why UConn wasn't offering tickets to the tournament for a UConn section at the tournament if there is even one. Maybe Quinnipac had a special deal with Sacred Heart to get a block of tickets.
