UConn‘s last win against Quinnipiac was in October of 2014

Lost 8 straight

Not only do they have the two best teams play against each other on the first day of the tourney, they have them playing in the afternoon.
And dont get me started on how they limit the attendance by not playing at XL every year.
Crazy
I wouldn’t mind alternating with Bridgeport either. Total Mortgage, or whatever it’s now called can fit sizable crowds for a growing tournament. 3k arenas, even state of the art and super nice ones, just don’t cut it.

I'll be there for my first UConn hockey game since 2020!

Also, I can't make Saturday's game, so feel free to PM me if you need tickets on a discount.

Last years attendance at the XL for the Quinnipiac/UConn game was 6429. Might have done a tad better at the XL Center this year. That is if it was the 7:00 game. Some people seem averse to making money.

Anybody know how to get a free feed of SNY to watch the games this weekend?

XL Center is UConn territory. No wonder QU, SHU and Yale don’t relish playing in “our” home environment. Furthermore, why does UConn play only 12 of 16 home games on campus, four at XL? Expenses at XL are brutal. We are not even close to the attendance numbers in hockey to turn a profit there.

We aren’t the Beanpot. Not yet, maybe not ever. Campus rotation may be necessary to keep QU and Yale in the fold. Without both of them CT Ice does not survive. SHU doesn’t have their hockey cache. They are fourth in the pecking order.

I think the tournament is showing positive signs. This year will be an interesting test. It won’t be UConn-Q final. SHU does bring a pretty good fan base though.

Cav grew up on the Beanpot and has that mindset. I think SHU and Q both like the idea. And would go for a neutral site if it worked. The wild card I think is Yale. They really never completely bought in when this was proposed earlier. I think the thing that comes into play First and foremost is the Ivy game limit. They prefer not to play QU, a fellow ECAC team in one of their limited non-conference games. It’s different for Harvard. They play HEA teams in the Beanpot that they would likely play anyway. I don’t know if there might be some way to make the QU game count as a league game for both teams if Yale faced them. Maybe when they play in the first round you could do it.

The other thing that enters into the equation is that 3 of the 4 teams have new arenas so rotating home games gave each a potential chance to show them off. UConn elected not to do that because Cav wants this to be an annual event and he has the strongest interest in that outcome. I actually thought last years event tried to be pretty neutral unlike the one at Q which was 100% a QU home game and treated that way.

-> “I love the time of year that we do it,” Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold said. “You’ve got your team set, you’re getting ready. You’re not fully into playoff mode but you’re getting there, and any time you can play for a trophy, better that it’s late in the year, it is a great springboard to get us ready for an ECAC run and hopefully for all four of us, an NCAA run.” <-

-> “I have always said, from my years of coaching in the Beanpot (while at Boston College) and this tournament, I think it’s a great dress rehearsal for what’s to come,” UConn coach Mike Cavanaugh said. “When you’re playing in a game where there’s a trophy on the line, it’s single elimination, it prepares your team to play a little bit differently. It’s different from the following weekend, we play Providence and if you lose the first, it doesn’t mean your chances of winning anything are gone.” <-

-> “We’ve played some really good teams during the year and have had some ups and downs,” Pioneers coach C.J. Marottolo said. “But you pull experiences. We’ve come from behind, we’ve had good third periods, we’ve had good starts. There are a lot of things that create experiences for your team. On any given night, any team can beat anybody. The three teams in this tournament, it’s unbelievable competition.” <-

-> “I came into the year expecting a lot,” Yale coach Keith Allain said. “We had a good, big freshman class, our seniors are great. We’ve been pretty banged up all through the fall. So I went into Christmas break not really sure what we had, but we’re getting healthier and since we’ve come back we’ve played well. We’re a better hockey team than we were Dec. 1, that’s for sure, and we’d like to use a tournament like this to make sure we’re a better team Feb. 1 than we are right now.” <-

Looks like the only tickets left for QU v Uconn are $100 for unreserved seats in their beergarden…too steep when I can sit at home and watch SNY for free….sad reality

You could have bought face value tickets for like $30 a few weeks ago.

I think the beer garden comes with open (beer) bar. They also have a VIP Pavillion that was around $250 but comes with a buffet that includes prime rib . . .

I’ll be there. Can’t wait. It’s a great event. I hope UConn hockey has a successful two days.

I'll be there on Saturday. Can't make it Friday because of work and the 4 pm start time. Since I didn't jump on buying a ticket when they first were being sold, I had to buy my ticket through Quinnipiac so technically I'm in the Quinnipiac section. At lest I'm in the door and there will be one less QU fan at the game. Now I don't know why UConn wasn't offering tickets to the tournament for a UConn section at the tournament if there is even one. Maybe Quinnipac had a special deal with Sacred Heart to get a block of tickets.

I was surprised UConn didn't have a block of tickets in a section for the weekend. It seems Quinnipiac and Yale did from what I am hearing. Was UConn offered a block from Sacred Heart but declined it to purposely cause more strife for UConn fans with this tournament, pushing the narrative to have XL be a permanent host? I know Yale got a block of tickets when Quinnipiac hosted 2 years ago. Why is UConn not being offered or worse yet, declining a section of tickets for its fans? Just a thought.

Luckily, I was able to get tickets on Stubhub in section 107.

There are tickets on the secondary market but I didn't like the prices.
