2025-26 Coaching Carousel

Are more coaches playing musical chairs than usual this year? Feels like an all-time high. Or maybe it's just that I'm paying more attention because of our own situation.
It does feel like an all time high. The farther we get into the NIL/portal era, the more chaos there is.

I don't care if he upset a ranked team... The fact there was a stabbing incident in his locker room between his players should automatically disqualify him.
That incident was largely attributed to the culture issues leftover from Dilfer's leadership (which at that point had ended less than a month earlier). He was the only member of UAB's athletic leadership to face reporters, while the AD effectively dodged facing questions as much as possible (at least that's the take I saw from UAB fans). The optics are still pretty bad though (and that's probably why he's lobbying for the job rather than just being named to it)

PennSt: What if you had a job that nobody wanted?

Dont get me wrong, they'll get someone eventually. The market always clears. But is going to be far more $$ or far lower quality than they had anticipated.

Penn State has a "new coach" thread which is over 5k posts long. took a glance. they are starting to get p.o.'d at their AD for this mess. I really hope they find a coach soon, they better find a new coach soon.

"Krafty must be fired. We are the laughingstocks of the cfb world with no coach heading into signing day."

I’m shocked that they haven’t hired a new coach. When schools like Arkansas and I think Kentucky, get coaches quickly and before a Penn St job that’s been open for awhile, something is wrong in Happy Valley. My only thought is that they feel this position deserves a better coach than an American coach or G5?? I can’t think of any other reason why this job is still open.

Something has been wrong in Happy Valley for a very long time.

I laughed when Penn State fired Franklin. He had them making routine appearances in the top 10 basically every year, they were close to the championship game last year and had people talking about them being in contention a few weeks into this season. Then they lost to UCLA, went into a funk and it was like the sky was falling. I know some of their fans didn't like him because in his best seasons he would always lose to Michigan or Ohio State and they would miss the B1G championship game. But this felt like an absolute panic move when they made the decision to can him.

There are obviously a lot of pros to being the coach at Penn State. But it's also a job with very high expectations. Franklin had a lot of really good years there and still struggled to beat Ohio State and Michigan. Now whoever takes over also has to deal with Oregon, a much improved Indiana and the rest of the B1G gauntlet as well. It's not exactly a low stress job to begin with, now they fire a guy mid season after almost making the championship game the year prior? One that had multiple 10 win seasons there? Who in their right mind would want that job?

I'm not shocked at all the BYU coach turned them down before really even getting involved in the process. He's going to get paid at BYU and the expectations are much lower. At BYU, all he has to do is keep them in playoff contention most seasons and they'll love him. At Penn State, if he has a 4 loss season he might be on the hot seat going into next year.

I have a feeling PSU will be less than thrilled with whoever they end up hiring.

Hopefully we're kinda like North Texas in that HC anouncement comes out of the blue (like tomorrow, would be nice)... nobody ever talked about this one:

The job posting isn't even on UConn's website yet. We're at least a week out.

That isn’t a requirement for head coaches. I don’t even think it is for assistants but may be. They didn’t post for Mora. They didn’t post for Hurley or the soccer coach. I don’t know where this idea came from but it is just an urban legend and a reason to bash UConn.

Seems as though Kraft at PSU overrated his kraftiness and has been getting a lesson in where he and PSU stand. I'm sure that Franklin has put some seeds out there that have grown and spread as well. Payback is a beach.

Hate to say it, but it reminds me of our Athletic Administration sitting on the beach doing cocktails while Jurich and Louisville were stealing our ACC spot!

Their decision making?

They didn’t fire him bc he lost to Ohiost.

They fired him because after going all in on hiring expensive assistants and paying mega NIL to push them over the top, they lost to winless UClA and AT HOME to northwestern.
He had failed in the big game (again) and then lost his players in those back2back losses.
I dunno if he needed to be fired but that was a meltdown.

Franklin went from White Out to Enter Sandman

They're lucky they even have a football program left but they act like they're supposed to be the greatest program in the country. It's wild. They're gonna end up like Nebraska

At least Nebraska won’t have shame following them around for eternity. Vengeance thy name is Jimmy Sexton.

Man Kraft at PSU is totally screwing the pooch on this. He's making it a less desirable job than UConn at this point for big name coaches

I called firing Franklin a huge mistake. Had you in the national semifinals last year. Yeah they had down year, this year, but this man won at Vanderbilt pre NIL which was virtually impossible. People don't appreciate how good a coach he is.

HEs already flipping recruits from Penn St to VT. This could finally be there next Frank Beemer
