2025-26 Coaching Carousel

Let's see, so far

OUT - UCLA, PennSt / Ark, LSU, Fla / VaTech / Okla St

HOT SEAT - Wisc / Aub / FSU /

WARM SEAT - USC, MD, MichSt / Ky / UNC / Col

Others?
USC has Northwestern, Iowa, @Oregon, and UCLA left. If Riley loses 2 of those and they finish 8-4 I imagine USC will have a good, long look at other options.

None of these schools will be able to get anyone to take their jobs without massive, no offset, buyouts.
Of course they will. The pay is enormous, and every coach at that level believes they are the exception.
Its like elite players and playing time in BB — no great player is worried that they will get sufficient playing time no matter who else is on the team.

The last guy fired had a no offset buyout. Why is that going to change?

lol, was just watching a BB game on ESPNU. immediately following: SEC Inside -- LSU, featuring Brian Kelly

I have no issue with the mitigation clause in concept. I haven't seen his specific clause, but it would probably require him to actively search for another job in line with his credentials.

That, of course, can be open to interpretation and I don't know how the clauses are general interpreted. I'd be interested to see what he's required to do. Can he be forced to take a crappy job (that may not pay much) or vice versa, is he forced to only take the highest paying job possible to mitigate PSU's damages? I don't know.

But, if he chooses to use this as early retirement, or wants to pursue his passion as a barista that does latte art, Penn State wouldn't have to pay him and I think I'm okay with that.

Seems like they have created a monster with the 12 team playoff system. When it was 2 or even 4 teams most people understood that they had to be near perfect to get selected and that was very hard. Now teams with multiple losses get into the tournament and there is an expectation that you need to get in and you should win if you are in.
