2025-26 Coaching Carousel

Penn State is such a big job i would think they want someone with proven P4 success. To get rid of someone who had the success of Franklin to replace him who was in the FCS a couple of years ago I don’t know. I get that Franklin in big games came up short often, but look at what has happened to Wisconsin since firing Paul Chryst. They may be getting ready to dump Fickell already. Chryst like Franklin won 13 games 1 year there. That isn't easy to replicate.

TBH after saturday I thought O'Brien was going the way of Charlie Weis
I think he gets at least one more year. He's a good coach, but BC has been bad for long and it's going to take some time to build up that foundation. I mean look at UConn, it took us years to bounce back from bad HC hires.

It did? Mora made us immediately better in year one playing without a real QB.

There are no excuses in the transfer portal era. And look at what Cig is doing at Indiana. Mora literally took us from 1-11 to 6-7. Two years later we're 9-4...

true…but year 2, Mora’s team regressed. He came back in year 3. This is year 2 for BOB.

But…he does seem to struggle with QB play. He seems to have a quick trigger. Last year he benched Castellanos…who then transferred to FSU. This year he benched Alabama transfer Lonergan..who I thought looked decent.

Actually..I wonder if Lonergan transfers again….could be a UConn option.

If UConn were in the ACC or another P4 Jim Mora would have done even better. bcu has all the financial and competitive advantages of ACC membership.

Yes we got worse after PP because we compounded it with another bad hire then after BD we doubled down with RE 2.0. Let's not lump all 3 crappy hires into one. 13 years (or however long it was) after RE 1.0 is nowhere close to immediately better

So your theory is that it would have been easier, not harder, for Mora to turn us around if there had only been one bad hire before him? That’s a truly odd theory.

A good coach can turn a team around very quickly. There is plenty of evidence of that. It doesn’t mean that a good coach can quickly create great teams from a horrible program, but absolutely their right hire can make a team materially better very quickly.

You could make a real argument that the 3-9 team was as good or better than the 6-7 team. Many losses were close. The lack of an NIL effort impacted the team from year 1 to 2 as that market kicked in.

Jim Mora has been a tremendous hire. What he has done in short order has been simply incredible. The concern is if he wishes to chase a P4 job.

If Mora got the team right after PP left we'd have had a much better base of players than what we had at end of RE2.0. We'd be further along than we are now. This is not a knock on Mora at all.

Putting aside the difference in transfer situations now vs then and conference stuff. Just the state of the roster and our reputation at end of PP vs at end of RE2

My post is not worded great so I apologize. I will admit I am not as perfect as others in here.

That 2022 team got really lucky in quite a few wins, combined with a defense (mainly Jackson Mitchell) that forced a lot of timely turnovers. But our offense was pretty much nonexistent under Charlton.

The 3-9 team was competitive with NC State (a team they lost to by 40+ the previous year), should’ve beat Utah State, FIU, and USF. I’m willing to bet we come much closer to 6 wins if Joe doesn’t get hurt in that Georgia State game

Do we know this? I think he gets another year because I don't see how BCU has the money to pay him off and still have money to get someone good.

Folks who had business in Boise told me it would be a fun road trip. But I'm not leaving the city proper. I used to watch Twin Peaks.
Haha. I didn't venture out. I did have a local tell me they were out in Boise one night, got hammered and passed out on a bench in the center of the city overnight. They woke up and werent dead. And they still had all their belongings.

Given the number of vacancies they are better off rolling Bill’s buyout money into NIL instead of firing him and hiring yet another lesser candidates.

don't look now, but we've currently got a winning record in the JM era! woohoo!
i hope we are able to keep Jim Mora if he keeps winning and P4s come knocking.

What did you think might happen, get robbed by a herd of mule deer or antelope?

100%

Penn state made it clear in this firing, what the standard is. they don't want just wins, they want to beat Michigan, Oregon, and Ohio State, and then get some championships. every other win type, is a GIVEN to them.
Goooooooood luck to the next coach, seriously.

It's possible that Bob Chesney could deliver, but that's not the hire that makes it worth having fired James Franklin. Honestly they probably will have to pony up irresponsible amounts of money for the guy they want (Cignetti) - or someone along those lines who's already locked up and whose buyout would make PA taxpayers stage a protest in Harrisburg.

O'Brien did great at PSU, he has had Houston being the most successful in the NFL in recent memory and is a great coordinator. I honestly don't think he's the problem at BC. BC is the problem at BC.
