2025-26 Coaching Carousel

Has Jim Mora ever hinted about the possibility of leaving? I get the sense he is content at this point in his career to remain at UConn, but is there a chance he could accept an offer to coach elsewhere as Lovallo suggests is very possible? Maybe UConn does need to give him a more lucrative contract.

Jim Mora’s buyout on his contract after 1/1/2026 is only $750k. Mora appears on the potential head coaching list for all three openings on the West Coast. That said he does not appear to be the number candidate for any of the three schools.

We have our toughest schedule since we were in the Big East coming up next season. We are losing a 1000 yard plus alltime receiver and an over 3000 yard QB. Not sure Cam Edwards will return. UConn had better not lose Coach Mora just based on salary. If we had made Joe Moorhead HC (he is currently 52 yo) instead of PP we would not have hit the levels of futility we did when Edsall left. I hope and pray Coach Mora stays. Not being in a conference is our biggest drawback IMO.
Moorhead wasn’t sought after at that time and was demoted to QB coach with little influence on who started. Whipple along with that defensive likely would have been successful imo.

Timing was always against UConn. Addazio took the Temple opening one week ahead of Edsall's departure. Had he still been available he & not Pasqualoni would have likely gotten the job. Given his success at Temple in his first coaching job, it's reasonable to expect he'd've been more successful given the talent that Edsall was leaving behind. Addazzio keeps UConn going to bowl's consistently perhaps either of the two ACC expansions go differently (i.e. if UConn football is better perhaps BC's objections initially are drown out; or after Maryland leaves the push for Louisville over UConn for football reasons may not be successful).

UConn moved up too late and have been paying for it ever since.

We can't take the el cheapo route on our next hire. Just woke up this Twitter news of Mora to Colorado State...

Yep. Whip was the one that got away. I didn’t realize it at the time, but he would have scored a lot of points with the players we had and known enough about football to keep the defense going. From there, he could have recruited well because he played a fun brand of football.

Figured that was Petrino's all the way, but he didn't win a single game as interim. Another case of the grass not always being greener.

Whipple had the right combo of wide open offense and whatever it takes to get it done attitude to have been great here. Overlooked by Hathaway? Too scary for Jeff.

Screw it go after Jimbo Fischer or maybe Dabo Sweeney will want to start fresh with how poorly Clemson is going. Go big or go home. Ed O is available too

He'll decide this weekend, that's like Kiffin's announcement being saved for after the Egg Bowl. It also gives a chance for any other potentially interested parties to submit their last, best & final offers
