I don’t see UConn or UCLA losing their 1/2 spots because I don’t see either of them losing a game through the end of their conference tournaments . UConn is extremely unlikely to lose to Tenn or any Big East school. They willl almost certainly enter the NCAA tournament undefeated.

I guess UCLA could jump UConn in some of the computer ratings due to the strength of schedule. While the Big Ten has a number of good teams, I don’t see any of them being good enough to beat UCLA.

SCar, Texas and LSU? Any of them could lose a game to somebody else in the upper half of the SEC (like Texas and LSU have already lost to Vandy and SCar lost to Okie). Plus, LSU still has to play Texas again and Scar in the regular season. Though SCar may have a home-away-from-home advantage in the tournament, the semi and the final are gonna be tough! 3,4 and 5 seeds in the NCAA? Maybe not.

As to Duke? A top 16 finish and home court for the NCAAs would be pretty solid given their poor early season and the general weakness of the ACC. But, can they beat Louisville in their Tournament? Good luck, our SOS depends on them being a Quad 1.

A Monster in the making

Roberson is going to be great. 2 more years of her and Fournier in the post should keep Duke on top of the ACC. Plus if Emilee Skinner is close to being as good as she was ranked (#4) they're in good hands at PG for years to come. Not to mention they have a great recruiting class lined up for next year. Kara's doing a great job in Durham.

Apparently both Skinner and Donovan are out for the season. Was not aware of the Donovan injury situation.

Kara Lawson has done a great job with turning this team around. I’ve noticed the folks calling for her dismissal from Team USA are noticeably quiet.

I predict that the noise will pick back up after the next Team USA camp.

Duke quietly has one of the best frontcourts in the country now with Fournier and a consistently great Delaney Thomas. Does any team have a backup 5 as good as Roberson? Other than Oldacre at Texas I can’t think of anyone.

FWIW, Duke’s PPG has increased every season over the past four, and at a respectable 75.9 now.

I feel like Duke's PPG started going up when Donovan got hurt and then they started going in the ACC. I like Donovan's defensive versatility, but she really was ineffective this season offensively.

Wow, color me surprised that a certain Blue Devil acolyte is very excited today....

Part of me wonders if their recent success is due to a weak ACC schedule. I guess time will tell but they look like an elite 8 team now.
Just like every other conference, the ACC has at least 10 teams with records of at least 0.500. The ACC has seven (yes, SEVEN) teams that have already reached 10 conference wins, which means that all of those teams will finish with a conference record above 0.500. Duke has only played Pitt, Boston College, SMU, and Wake Forest once each and will finish the season with NC State (tournament team), Clemson (bubble team), FSU, and UNC (who they already defeated).

Maybe, just maybe, the ACC ain't half bad and Duke is just that much better?

Sounds like they're a top heavy conference. Nothing but a showing out in the tournament will really convince me otherwise. The ACC had such a bad non-conference record that their inter-conference records won't really change my mind.

Sounds like you have your mind made up and aren't willing to consider the actual evidence in front of you.

In case you actually change your mind, consider this. Stanford has nonconference wins over Oregon and Washington, two teams that everyone has in the tournament (not bubble teams--actual tournament teams). Stanford lost by three points to Tennessee, another tournament team. Stanford currently sits at 5-9 in the ACC.

Haven't finished this, but Mitchell Northam wrote this article on Coach Lawson that I've enjoyed reading so far. Had to make sure I shared it before I got distracted with other things.
