2024 UConn Summer/Fall Camp

We used to get tweets with observations on how players were looking. How can guys be getting paid to cover the team and not show up/provide content when they've got the opportunity?

All the usuals were there -Arruda (Courant}, Adamec (Hearst) and Keefe (Day) all tend to bake their observations in their longer stories as opposed to quick hits on twitter. They want you to read their on-line/print stories.

You'll never get me to say there is enough coverage tho... they only get who the program makes available that day.

Right, they do the longer form stuff, but feel like they used to tweet a bit more from the practices. I'm less interested in special interest stories on offensive linemen than in knowing how our QBs look

Oddly enough, if no QB has really separated themselves at this point, picking any one of them to be the starter shouldn't make a big difference. In other words, pick any of them and give them the first team reps for the rest of camp.

If the talent level and performance so far isn't so wide the coaches haven't seen it yet, unless they reasonably expect one of them to greatly improve in the next two weeks (all while sharing reps), just pick one and go with it.

Higher probability any one of them can perform best based on max reps and practice than the probability of waiting for one of them to improve so much a lack of reps won't matter as much.

It’s like they are just recycling material from the Media Day and they haven’t talked to anyone with the team since then.

Lazy.

It seems when they post videos on Twitter (X), the QB seems to be Fagnano.
 
I don't buy that it's Fagnano one bit; especially by the videos... They show a lot of guys that don't play much if you look at the past videos...

I think we'll have more info by Sunday/Monday after tomorrow's scrimmage.
 
When asked about his QBs, Mora talked about their effort and energy.

I would feel much better if talked about strong arms or accuracy or reading defenses or ANYTHING TANGIBLE. The worst QB on the planet can have great effort and energy. Of course, none of local media pressed him on his statement.

Everyone, thank you for the updates from yesterday’s open practice. The theme I am picking up is that the offense again will be an issue. I hope the QBs had a bad day, but this has been going on for years now across staffs. The staff needs to pick the starting QB that provides us the best chance of success, regardless of nil or age or experience. I’m not sure we have a good track record on this.
 
Is it possible that Evers needs more time to catch up to the other QBs? Hasn’t he only been at UConn since May? Hopefully he will improve as he gets more comfortable with the playbook.

What you saw yesterday was 3 QBs who have only thrown one college pass and one QB who has a lot of experience but was injured last year. Throw in a new offense, a new OC, almost all new WRs, and limited practice time and that is what you will see. In other words, the QBs are not in synch yet with the offense, but it will get better.

I have been saying this for a while. The first game of the season, at Maryland, is going to be a tough game and do you throw in an inexperienced QB or an experienced starter? It would not surprise me to see Fagnano start against Maryland with Evers playing as well and see who moves the offense best.

Every year, it feels like Groundhog Day with UConn football. Fans or the rare press coverage always note that maybe the QB just had an off day, and posters remind us that we mere mortals don't see what happens in practice. But every year, the concerns about the coach either being super secretive or not deciding on a QB until very late in summer camp/practice yield the same results: awful QB play. It's frustrating, especially since we know it's going to be a boring, predictable, run-heavy offense again, with a QB chosen for managing the game and escaping bad situations rather than risking true downfield threats. I hope I'm wrong, but UConn football is the most Groundhog Day program ever. Let's hope we don't lose another promising quarterback to transfer out of this.

My question was more around Evers specifically since he has had the least time with the team. Maybe that was part of the reason he played poorly. They all have a new system and new OC. But he has a whole new school experience.


It may be wishful thinking, but he may have more of an excuse for his poor performance.

Sounds like we have a less than desirable QB situation with no separation… meaning they all are at best average. Nothing changes a program like a great QB. Go with Evers and roll the die. Need to open up and start changing our destiny.

How I know FB season is around the corner. Other than the eternal optimists, we collectively realize that we have no QBs because they are all lumped together in a bottom quartile offense.
