Guess this isn't coming together as I had thought it might be.
My thinking on the Davis front as well...Could Davis have taken the open DB spot? Recruiting is a lot less predictable with the transfer portal. We all used to look at needs based on the scholarship grid, but a needs can shift dramatically based on transfers in and out. I feel like it makes the recruiting of HS players more interesting. Is a coach less likely to take a gamble on a longer term prospect and just fill a need with a transfer.
Maybe they had the sell we use vs. P5, playing time.We lost a recruiting battle against Central? This kid seemed like an athletic Tackle prospect. Certainly a developmental prospect but a good prospect none the less. Bummer.
Academics perhaps? We ran out of seats? Or he just had a big reason to choose CCSU.We lost a recruiting battle against Central? This kid seemed like an athletic Tackle prospect. Certainly a developmental prospect but a good prospect none the less. Bummer.
Hopefully it means we have at least one unannounced OT commitment. We certainly can use at least one more. Maybe we ran out of open slots on the line.Academics perhaps? We ran out of seats? Or he just had a big reason to choose SCSU.
I kind of think we ran out of seats. Look at the OL depth chart going into next year based on eligibility:Academics perhaps? We ran out of seats? Or he just had a big reason to choose CCSU.
Marinelli hire was announced 11/28, JS was offered on 11/29 (with AIC and CCSU offers in that order), SHU offered on 12/1. Not much interaction after the offer. We lost a recruiting battle against Central? This kid seemed like an athletic Tackle prospect. Could have been a non committable offer. You can't look at a kid going to lower level fcs or d2 schools and think we lost. More than likely it was never a serious offer, but rather something to help build a relationship with the school. We lost a recruiting battle against Central? I had a friend who coached at CCSU in the early 2000s. They recruited kids with FBS offers because as he said some kids don't want 24/7 grind of of 1A football.Academics perhaps? We ran out of seats? Or he just had a big reason to choose CCSU.
Many FBS schools offer hundreds of scholarships to get to 20 to 25 signed HS athletes so it is not unusual for kids who have FBS offers to sign with an FCS school because there is not room at the FBS school.I had a friend who coached at CCSU in the early 2000s. Who would have thought that back in March his top 12 of UConn, Kansas, Cincy, Washington St., Michigan St., Baylor, SMU, Houston, Tulane, Utah, and BYU plus the little upstart Central Arkansas would possibly lead him to the ASUN and Central Arkansas? Would be an interesting choice after de-committing from the University of New Mexico.
