2021-2022 UConn Men’s Hockey

It’s just a matter of time before this starts to affect other teams and other sports. We started acting like we were in the clear…we were’nt.

It already did affect other sports, both pro and college. Before the weekend a few NHL games were postponed, as well as college games in the midwest, do not remember which sport.

It’s going to be a rough winter. If this is happening to teams that are doing regular testing and are trying to stay ahead of this thing, the general public is in big trouble. Buckle up.

Still infectious if confirmed positive. Same policy that kept Van DeMark, Rose, Lou Spanos, etc… off the sidelines for football.

Is what it is…
Is this a "UConn" stance on Covid? Or all teams in the NCAA?
I know the NFL is professional, not college, but Keenan Allen just tested positive for the Chargers and he still may be able to play next Sunday if he is free of symptoms and passes two tests 24hrs apart since he's vaccinated.

It's a difference of money- the NFL is gonna spent the money to get the constant testing. A college athletic department probably isn't, unless it's elite FB or BB. Nobody's paying for constant testing for the soccer teams before the NCAAs, when the NCAA will throw the money at it

I find it hard to believe it’s a money issue with UConn. I think it’s more they are extraordinarily cautious even two years into this.

-> Update on UConn men’s hockey’s COVID problems

The women’s team had 10 women’s players in attendance while the men’s team had six — Jake Flynn, Vladislav Firstov, Ryan Keane, John Wojciechowski, Matt Pasquale, and Kevin O’Neil. While some players were in class — the ceremony was held at 11 a.m. on Friday — UConn men’s hockey also has a significant portion of its team in COVID protocols.

The Huskies’ last two series of the first half were postponed because they didn’t have enough players available to meet Hockey East’s requirement of 15 skaters and two goaltenders.

On Friday, Cavanaugh provided more details.

“We had started with one (positive test) and went to two or three but because of the protocols, you have to wait five days and close contacts get tested, and then all of a sudden it jumped to six and now we’re testing the whole team and it gets to a point where we couldn’t meet the Hockey East protocols to field a team to play last week and obviously this week either,” he said.

As a result, UConn won’t play again until Jan. 2 at Harvard.

“We’ll get through it. It was an unfortunate situation and certainly I don’t think as bad as last year,” he said “I feel pretty confident that we’ll be healthy for the second half.” <-

Tverberg just missed the cut for the final roster for the U-20 Canadian team. Had a great camp, scored a goal in one of the 2 games they played. Only 2 NCAA players made the squad (both from U Michigan). I'm sure the experience will be helpful going forward, and (selfishly), we don't lose him for any UConn games.

Decent start. Nine of the remaining 15 HE games are at home. IMO, a successful season is a top four HE finish.

Top 4 in the conference or playing Friday night at TD Garden would be a hell of a season. (I’ll take the Friday night option myself)

I don’t see any news where team Canada added Ryan Tverberg to the WJ Roster. As far as I know, Ryan was cut and didn’t make the final roster.

I feel like I fell into a black hole and had no idea how the team has been doing since earlier on. It seems that because they aren't playing. Got my new UConn Hockey Jersey for Christmas, so I'm hoping we can get back at it and get some Ws.

Mitch Beck is a weird guy. He's obsessed with a minor league hockey team that's 15 years past its expiration date.

This broke my brain, may it break yours as well:

"At times it's just pounding it to the net and getting rebounds."

Can't get rebounds if we don't shoot. Pass, pass, pass, pass, don't shoot.....look for the perfect pass. NO SHOTS, NO GOALS!

Seems odd to me that UMass and UMass Lowell are up there and BU is nowhere to be found. College hockey is weird. I still don't understand how Quinnipiac became a power.

Pairwise, which is heavily considered by the NCAA selection committee, has UConn at #19.
