2021-2022 UConn Men’s Hockey

-> Injury report - Sophomore forward Nick Capone will miss out with an upper body injury. “It’s not a serious injury but he’s not gonna play tomorrow,” Cavanaugh said. <-

Top three in HE.....................maybe, but unlikely. Top ten national ranking..............no. Top 16 national ranking, with a shot at NCAA tourney (if NOT getting blown out in the first round HE playoff) is a reasonable expectation. Must have a solid out-of-conference record.............beginning tomorrow with a win against Sacred Heart. Losses to the likes of SHU, AIC, Dartmouth, Colgate will hurt. A loss to Ohio State or Harvard..........not as much. We don't have the pedigree of HE stalwarts BC, BU, NE, PC, and UMass has the defending national champ advantage. I think we must finish above at least one, and likely two, of them in the final RPI standings to garner an NCAA bid (in lieu of an HE tourney win).

I'm hoping someone can explain something to me. The first USCHO poll for the year, 9/27 had UConn receiving 20 votes, Sacred Heart 17... Fast forward to this week after beating SH and they only receive 6 votes? What am I missing?

As UConn opens HE play this weekend:

Pretty extensive write-up within (TL/DR version below):

-> 2021-22 Outlook: UConn has the potential to break into the top-four this year and secure an NCAA berth. If everything comes together, that’s their ceiling. They might not have the marketable names like BU or BC, but this is the best roster Mike Cavanaugh has had, and they have the potential to make some noise on a local and national stage. <-
