Health questions on top of the other issues make him undraftable unless he goes completely bonkers this year... even then maybe not.
He could still pursue other professional opportunities after this year. Alterique could make a lot of money overseas.

Ideally Manuel signs and we sign 3 recruits for 2020. a guard, a wing and a center.
I have a hunch that Gilbert does end up returning AND we have 3 open scholarships.

just to be clear, have you been implying that even if Manuel comes this season AND Gilbert stays next season...there's still a possibility of 3 open scholarships for 20-21?

that would have to mean either:
1) carlton, polley, whaley, wilson, or adams transfers
2) akok goes pro

Early indications are Gilbert (although still dependent on how this season goes) will be back for 20-21. Also, it sounds like things are at a standstill with Manuel. Interest is still there but it’s not looking likely at the moment. That would leave 3 open scholarships for 2020. The staff is all in on Andre Jackson. Look for us to push hard for one of Andre Curbelo or Hassan Diarra. A center is also (obviously) a priority. There’s moderate mutual interest with Cam Thomas. Kenya loves him but he’ll have an offer from every blue blood and NC State is especially in there deep.

Technically, Gilbert can likely get a 6th year waiver and play for 3 more seasons.

Hypothetically with his injury history, he might make more money with a 100% free Masters degree/2-year MBA than earn playing basketball professionally. You might only make 50-120k in one of the middling European leagues and teams might be wary to invest with his history on top of the normal Americans abroad risk factors. A UConn MBA graduate is earning 100k+ right out of the gates with better long term earning potential.

Obviously his dream is basketball and I wouldn't be surprised if Cole was brought in with the idea that Gilbert is leaving to go pro after next year, but... it's an interesting option to think about.

I love this kid Taylor’s tape, the new offer. There’s ton of tape but it all seems to be from his sophomore year. Any idea why there is this gap? Injury?

He'll get a free masters whenever he wants as a graduate assistant though. Bright kid, tough as nails, from a recruiting hotbed, there's a million schools that would take him.

I think people underestimate what a team and program oriented player Alterique is. AG came here to be the next great point guard following Kemba and Shabazz, to lead UConn to it's next National Title. Things haven't quite worked out for him or for UConn.

UConn is back in the hunt for 2019-2020 and even more so the following year 2020-2021. I think AG stays with the chance to cut down nets especially now that we are back in the BIG EAST.

Nothing would say Uconn is back in the big east more than entering the conference with a Gilbert and Cole backcourt.

Bad news on the Manuel front. Academics just not working out? Very worried about the bigs situation this season if we don’t get him.

Why is Manuel not looking likely? Lack of interest from us or him, or academic issues?

He's speculating. There's no inside info there.

Harcum has two summer sessions, the first one hasn't ended yet. If Manuel is failing his summer classes, there would still be time to make up work; and how would anyone know, anyway? Most likely he's just guessing, wrongly, that no news is bad news.

would love to land Jackson and a center like Hugley.

but the 20-21 PG spot would be jam packed with gilbert, cole, gaffney, and curbelo/diarra

i'd love another big in the class like Lance Ware or Springs/Taylor

I don't think we have watched Andre since our initial offer, and we have yet to offer Hassan....

Agreed. Would much prefer a 2/3 combo type. Even 2. We're pretty weak at the 3 going forward (Sorry Sid.)

Lane and Jackson both fit that bill. Jackson could even play some point forward and let our guards shoot

Spot on.

I've watched almost every eybl game Jackson has played (for reasons unrelated to him as a recruit). And two hs games. He is a VERY good passer, fights pressure, plays from the 4 hole against zones. Tbh he's pretty good, if not very good, at everything but shooting. Maybe forces and turns it over a bit too much.

Against Westtown his team went zone and he defended Franck Kepnang (a center) well. Then in man guarded Gaffney and collier. D1 is another level of course.. but that switchability is sooo up Hurley's alley. Hard hedge with the athleticism to recover? Yes please.

If we went super small with Jackson at the 4, our guards would cook from the perimeter.

Feel like Bouk will play a lot of 3 in Hurley’s offense though. Would love to have 2 good ball handlers at the guards (Cole, AG, Gaffney) and then Bouk at the 3. Wilson/Polley can play both forward roles off the bench, as could Jackson if we land him.

Hurley is going to play 3 guards, a wing/strech-4 and a big. Definitely plenty of skill to change things up depending on matchups with the guys on our team and the way we're recruiting. Bouk will see time at the 2 and a lot at the 3, no question. Imagine a team where Bouk comes out from the 3 and a kid as athletic as Jackson creates havoc on defense?
