A new thread for players of interest in the 2020 and 2021 classes. Might throw in a nugget or two about 2022 players occasionally.

A list of the players we know or appear to know UConn is interested in from these two classes at this point:

2020
:

Paige Bueckers, Hailey Van Lith, Hannah Gusters, Dalayah Daniels, Leilani Kapinus, Sasha Goforth, Sarah Andrews, Natalija Marshall ---all ranked within ESPN's and Prospects Nation's top-22.

2021:

Azzi Fudd, Amari DeBerry, Olivia Miles, Caroline Ducharme, Sonia Citron, Saylor Poffenbarger, Jillian Hollingshead, Taylor Bigby

DeBerry, a starter since she was a seventh-grader, led the Lady Billies in points (18.8 per game) and blocks (4), and was second in rebounds (8.7). She enters her sophomore season with 1,109 career points.

DeBerry is the top-ranked player in the nation at her position — and second overall — for the Class of 2021, according to ESPN.

“It’s exciting that we have such a gifted player for her age in Western New York,” coach Dolan said. “The really nice thing is that her game keeps developing. She continues to work on her ball handling, as well as attacking the rim and her jump shot. She also is a threat from behind the arc. People are going to have to come out and guard her, but she does attack with confidence off the dribble. She’s really turning into a complete player.”

The 2018 All-Bee Girls Player of the Year, All-ECIC Large Schools Player of the Year and All-Western New York First Team selection has received interest from numerous Division I schools, including South Carolina, Connecticut, Louisville, West Virginia, Virginia, Notre Dame, Florida and UCLA.

“She remembers where she came from, and remains hungry and humble,” coach Dolan said.

There are a few that I'm not as confident in listing but we can. Unfortunately, Cameron Brink is no longer available. I haven't seen anything lately on Demetre or Adams but it's duly noted that they have been linked to UConn in some form or fashion. I love Rivers but am still waiting to see if UConn is in on her.

If UConn doesn't get Ms. Bueckers then there is something wrong with the universe...........................if it turns out there is something is wrong with the universe I hope she stays in Minnesota and leads the Golden Gophers to the promised land.......................wherever that might be.................

Looks like Paige will have some notable running mates this season for HS ball. One has made the ESPN watch list for 2022 Maya Nnaji and another is a Freshman silky smooth guard Amaya Battle who looks from this video like she can get some things done.

I know everyone will be watching the Huskies tonight but just in case you go the DVR route you can watch 2021 Olivia Miles play for Blair Academy at the same time.

You'll probably have to click on "watch this video on YouTube" because embedding has been restricted.

Leilani Kapinus ('20), who's already had a torn knee ligament, suffered an injury to the same knee in a game on Friday. MRI results are pending.

The knee injury occurred during a free-throw attempt in the late stages of Memorial’s 55-48 victory at East. A teammate missed a free throw, Kapinus grabbed the loose ball on the rebound, came down, gathered herself and was hurt when she planted, Flowers said.

“We are hoping for the best,” said Flowers, who wasn’t certain whether the injury would sideline Kapinus for a short term or whether it was more serious.

Last season ended with Kapinus tearing the posterior cruciate ligament in her right knee in a WIAA Division 1 regional final game in February, also against Madison East. She returned to win the Big Eight Conference high jump title in mid-May and finish 11th in the high jump at the Division 1 state track and field meet in June prior to her breakout summer playing AAU basketball.

This injury also is to her right knee, Flowers confirmed.

well that's not good to hear and the timing isn't great to boot...........................of course UConn might still add her to their own list of players that have overcome knee injuries..........
