2019 Recruiting: Kareem Reid - Reclassing from 2020

Well at least one of those four guys is capable of playing center. Which is why we need another. I don't care if we are final four capable or not, we MUST make the NCAA tournament. Four straight years out is a major concern and impacts our future recruiting.

I'm not worried about it. I don't think taking Reid forecloses us getting a center. Hurley knows what he's doing. I think at least one of those four guys won't be on the team.
 
Things are definitely crazy this time of year in CB recruiting. Between de-commits, JUCOs, reclassifying and Grad Transfers. Obviously Dan is sitting down with each returning player and discussing their future with the program. I sense 1 or 2 more openings will happen. That will give us between 1 to 3 players to get. I sense one of those openings will be for Reid. I have faith in the coaching staff. They do a ton more research on potential recruits than us on the BY.

I don't think missing the NCAA tournament this upcoming year will be a recruiting death sentence as long as the trend is good (say finish 60-80 in KenPom), especially since at that point we should have 2 solid recruiting years under our belt that will solidify the team for the following 3 years.

Exactly. I'd rather get this kid and dream on his upside as a useful big than to fill a positional need with a conventional center. 7'5 wingspan is crazy too. I wonder if the kid still has one ore growth spurt in him because 6'8 with a 7'5 wingspan just seems so abnormal. If he grew to 6'10 that'd be awesome.

Thought 7'5" might be off a bit for a 6'8", 6'9" kid.
 
Uconn is in of a need of a another big man or 2 . Did Reid's skills vastly improve for him to make this decision or Hurley ask him to reclassify . He may not make an immediate impact this year but we might thank God for having him in a next few years.

IDK guys, kid is a longer term PROJECT. Like he didn’t even start for PSA. If staff thinks we have 3 schollies I like it. If it’s only 1 or even 2 I’m not so sure.
 
List of suitors is getting more impressive. Could be Crean doesn't feel too positive about getting Precious if he's in on Reid this fast, or maybe it's the following:

247's Composite has Reid as a 3 star, #158 National, #26 PF and CT#4, while
247's own ranking has him as a 4 star, #111 National, #18 PF and #3 CT.

Rivals has him as a 4 star, #106 National and #18 PF. No CT rating.
Article in rivals from 9/30/18 had him as #101:

Maybe he and Akok lead Langford/others at PSA to UConn in the future.

Diarra hasn't proved he can be healthy enough. Whaley barely played this yr. Whaley is also very much a 4. Carlton cannot be the only 5.

I get the not being a contender stuff. As long as we agree there has to be another 5 from somewhere.

Don't know about his skill set but his measurables are Jeff Adrien like. Give him the motor and toughness then we could have something here.

Yeah. Think I grew a little bit after you graduated. Baseball nickname was Large. Only about 180 though. Not much better than people on this team. Definitely filled out now though.
