Not sure if Gametime has a preseason poll
it's a preseason maxpreps rating based solely off a formula. Maxpreps rankings don't mean anything until the last game has been played. No real argument at the top but Guilford, Branford, East Haven and Amity ranked ahead of West Haven, Hillhouse, and Xavier? Seriously?
I’m well aware of that and actually rankings in any sport with a playoff system are meaningless until the last game has been played and even then on most occasions. Just have to wonder about their “fourmula”it's a preseason maxpreps rating based solely off a formula. Maxpreps rankings don't mean anything until the last game has been played.

So what you're saying is this ranking is based on the end of last season? It's not a preseason poll of coaches or writers?it's a preseason maxpreps rating based solely off a formula. Maxpreps rankings don't mean anything until the last game has been played.
Yes. I think it takes historical success into consideration, and I think it looks at returning player stats. But it's not accurate because coaching staffs almost never fill those maxpreps rosters out correctly. So what you're saying is this ranking is based on the end of last season? GameTimeCT started to do team reviews over the past week or so and just released their preseason kick-off Welcome to the 2019 football preseason, let’s get you caught up… [updated Aug. 21]
New Canaan, St Joe's, Greenwich, Hand, and Newtown should round out the top five. Darien is rebuilding this year, but you never know. I'm expecting Darien to be ranked around #11, 12 or 13.Gametime poll is the media poll. The Day is the coaches poll. The Courant "poll" I think is just one guy at the Courant. Gametime poll will probably be out on the Tuesday prior to the opening week.
I wonder how East Hartford will do. Growing up, our rival was Penny, and it was THE GAME, but East Hartford was (not sure if it is still) a baseball town.

Shelton is playing East Hartford in one of the strangest matchups I can remember.
Is there a back story on how that happed.
they really just need to switch to a district model and line up the regular season by enrollment. You can make it so the majority of teams don't have to drive more than 45 minutes. You want strange? New Canaan played @ New London today (NC won 32-6).
>>The Alliance, which began with a crossover scheduling agreement the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC), the South-West Conference (SWC) and Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) in 2017, has added the Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) and Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) beginning this year.![]()

The new arrangement is a one-year deal.
The five leagues scheduled 99 interleague crossover games (up from 80 last season), a majority of which will be played over four weeks — Week 2 (Sept. 20), Week 3 (Sept. 27), Week 6 (Oct. 18) and Week 7 (Oct. 25), with a handful of matchups played during other weeks due to league scheduling conflicts.<<
I like the concept. The State really isn’t that big.

The Courant poll differs quite a bit from the Gametime-Register poll, in that St Joe's is ranked at #2, right behind Hand. I'm not sold on Hand yet, given what they lost from last year, and with the SCC conference as a whole still going through some down years. Xavier, NDWH, West Haven, Prep, are not as competitive statewide as they were just a couple years ago. If Hand blows out Norwalk on 10-18, then I'll be a believer. Even after that Hand would have to get past New Canaan and St Joe's in the playoffs in order to run the table again.
I think the two best teams in the state right now are Greenwich and St Joe's, followed by Hand and then New Canaan and Darien. What I'm hearing about St Joe's from some FCIAC people I know is that some believe that St Joe's might be even better than they were last year when they had David Summers. Their defense is better and the offensive line is improved. The new QB Wallace, is also a welcome surprise.Preseason polls are educated guesses as far as slotting... they both pretty much all have the same teams except for one having Windsor and the other having Sheehan. It’s a long season...
Hand tops The Day's first state coaches' poll of 2019With the Courant and GameTimeCT polls out - The Day's Top 10 Coaches' poll will debut next week following the upcoming Week 1 schedule.
That Greenwich team from last year was one of the best teams in state history, along with Ludlowe 61, New Canaan 69, Bloomfield in the late 90's, Xavier 2011, Darien 2016 and 17, Trumbull 86, West Haven 68, Cheshire mid 90's, Fitch 1976, and Stratford High in the early 70's. I'm sure I'm forgetting some though.Hand tops The Day's first state coaches' poll of 2019
Two-time Class L champion Hand (1-0) starts the year at No. 1 as it received 12 of 13 first-place votes.
The next four teams are from the FCIAC — in order, defending LL champion Greenwich (1-0), St. Joseph (1-0, the 2017 Class S and 2018 Class M champion), LL runner-up New Canaan (1-0) and Darien (1-0), the latter which won Class LL from 2015-17.
Southington (1-0), Shelton (1-0), Newtown (1-0), defending Class S champion Bloomfield (1-0) and Fairfield Prep (1-0) round out the Top 10.
