2019 CT High School Preseason/Season Rankings

Hand vs. St. Joe's would be a heck of a game. The two best in the state IMHO

I would flip St. Joe and Hand and replace Shelton with Cheshire.
I don't know about Cheshire being a top ten team, they recently won a very close game over FCIAC bottom dweller, Andrew Warde. The final was 35-20. They also lost to Hall. They played well and beat Shelton, however I think in a four game series Shelton wins 3 of those.

Can anyone tell me if Sheehan is considered a good team? I watched them against Brookfield a few weeks ago and they have a running back that has extra gears few HS kids do. Their 2nd and 3rd string backs were men amongst boys too. I caught the last few seconds of a local channel's story on 2 of their kids who survived a horrific car accident a few years ago that aired last weekend. Didn't see much but #27, who I felt was their 3rd back. was one of the kids in the accident and I remember him having track speed too. Their #1 back was #34 I think?

Brookfield is horrible this year but Sheehan seemed to be a team only missing a serviceable QB and some self control as far as penalties.

Sheehan is for real, they could go undefeated. That being said they don't play anyone in the top ten all season although Cheshire and Barlow should give them a game. Brookfield wouldn't be so bad if Henderson hadn't of left the team.

Henderson wouldn't have seen the field if he played at Sheehan.

I saw every game Nick played once he got to CT, JV included. Talented but not even close to #34.

Wow, really? Used to go to all the Brookfield games when my daughter was a cheerleader and Brookfield was beating almost everyone (Bobby Drysdale, Austin, Nick) but that's a few years ago. What are your thoughts on the coaching after Angarano? I also recall the Pop Warner participation in Brookfield being pretty good back then, which is not the case in a lot of towns now.

Personally, I think they should have had a coaching search after Angarano retired instead of handing the keys to a long time assistant. Lets just say there are probably 7-8 kids who are Seniors that decided not to play this year after coming up for years through the Pop Warner and HS program.

Wow, not good.

It's a crime that Sheehan is not in the top 10, they might be better than Hand. Cheshire too, is much better than 10.

Please stop with your nonsense. Hand and St. Joe's are the two best, but your bias is showing big time with this statement to say the least

Bias towards what for Christ sake? Sheehan and Hand are in the same conference. Ok Jerk?

Wow crazy seeing Rockville 7-0. They were heinously bad when I was there aside from one year. I know the school dropped to M so maybe that is a reason. Regardless, nice to see the alma mater doing well.

It will sort itself out. Sheehan gets North Haven and Cheshire. Cheshire gets Sheehan and Southington. If they respectively make the playoffs Sheehan could see Bloomfield & Ansonia. Cheshire could get Darien/Newtown/Greenwich. I'm sure the polls will reflect those results.

Behold, The Day's Top 10 state coaches’ poll: 1. Hand (7-0, 11 first-place votes); 2. St. Joseph (7-0, two first-place votes); 3. Darien (7-0); 4. Newtown (7-0); 5. Greenwich (6-1); 6. Bloomfield (7-0); 7. Southington (6-1); 8. Ansonia (7-0); 9. Sheehan (6-0); and, making its season debut, 10. Cheshire (6-1).

Hand is clearly the best team in state thus far. 2 tough games coming up against Xavier and Shelton though. Important to note that newspaper state rankings is a terrible measure for who’s actually better. For example, Shelton beat Ansonia by 4 TDs preseason with each team playing their starters the entire game.

No they're not. They are ranked #1 in the New Haven Register state poll but St Joe's is ranked #1 in the MaxPreps CT poll (decided by computer) Hand is ranked two. St Joe's also is ranked over Hand in the Class L CIAC playoff point standings because they have played a much tougher schedule and will be the #1 seed going into the playoffs. In any event both teams will meet in the playoffs to see who takes all the marbles. The only common opponent both teams have had is Notre Dame of West Haven. Hand beat them 49-14 and St Joe's beat them 42-7.
